Hi Andrea, It isn't breeding season right now (it ended a few days ago). So, right now you can't breed any of your mares. A new breeding season will start up again in May though! : )

When it is breeding season, you can breed your mare via her page or via the page of the stallion you wish to breed her to. If you're upgraded to Level 3 or higher, you can utilize straws and eggs to breed via the Advanced Breeding Lab.

However, because it's not breeding season, these options aren't available at the moment and will not appear on your mare's page. Once May 1st rolls around you'll see the option under your horse's Control Panel to place them up for stud or brood, once you do this - you can then breed your horse. Mares are only allowed one live cover foal a year (unless you are upgraded and pull eggs to create embryos). Stallions can have a maximum of 50 live cover foals a year (if you pull straws, you can use these and they do not count against your stallion's max 50 live cover foals). Depending upon whether you're upgraded or not you'll be able to start breeding on the 2nd or 3rd day of each breeding season.

Thanks! That helps a lot. Can stallions give covering offers by your choice? Or does every stallion have a covering offer? I can't wait until the next breeding season! :)

Always check to see if the owner of a stallion you want to breed to has any rules --geld colts that don't paper a certain rank, only breed to mares of the same generation, use all the available tests (all free ones if not upgraded, all appropriate tests with a fee if they are available to you, and so forth. Some are very simple rules, some quite complex.

Certainly, it's okay. If you haven't reached the point where you are choosy about what offspring your stallions have, don't worry about rules for others using your stallions.

However, if you want to have them, the easiest way to do it is to list your own criteria for keeping foals--they pass all free testing, neuter any that have it recommended by those tests, neuter any colts that paper lower than their sire (if you have stallion papering available). That sort of thing.

I have a standard wording for my new stallions that I keep in a notepad document and copy into the owner's notes for them just before I put them up for public stud. It doesn't take long, that way.
