Dun on Cremello
  • So one of my Dark Chocolate creates came out homozygous DP (which I was so excited about) but also with an extra copy of Cream.

I've been considering putting dun on her, but I honestly haven't been able to figure out what that would do to her color. Is that where tawny comes in, or would she be Cremello Dun? She would essentially become a Chocolate Dunalino, I think, but I'm not sure what she would be considered in game-terms. Would she get the primitive markings like leg barring and a dorsal stripe, or would the double cream dilute that as well? Since dun is also a dilute, I assume it would lighten her up completely.

  • Actually, I'm 99% sure that dun is not a dilution gene. It's in a different place on in the DNA than the dilution genes.
I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!
  • She only has one copy of DP, which makes her slightly lighter than yours, but she's got the Duncan copy.

  • @Nightpheonix gotcha, I was under the impression from some conversations I'd seen on the Facebook group and a different genetics Facebook group that dun, while different from dilute genes, behaved in a similar way while still adding primitive markings.

@bluchrystals yours is black-based though, which would probably give it a different name, right? Since a black-based double cream is a perlino and a red-based is a cremello? She's lovely though, and since she's also a double dilute, it probably has a similar look.

  • Dun dilutes pigment. Rather it moves it around in a way results in a look of dilution. It's a hair-splitting non-importnat argument about if it is or isn't.

  • @OscarWildin bluchrystals is bay-based, which is what makes it perlino. A black based horse (E_aa) with two cream will be smokey creme in the game.

I have a cremello with dun and liver ingredients (two sooty and a DP in this case) on HJ2 - they are called Cremello Dun.

  • This one has less splash but is short a sooty - still minimal to no primitive markings.

What do you mean when you refer to "tawny"?

  • Oh my god :)) I realized "tawny" is the breed of horse on here, since only one person has really been breeding the exact color combination I searched.

  • Thanks, Ammit, my words didn’t come out right. I meant that dun isn’t on the same allele (I think that’s the right word) as pearl, cream, snowdrop, and sunshine.
