What’s Bootstrapping?
-
I keep seeing people talk about Bootstrapping on here. What is it exactly?
-
it is exactly what you did to jumpstart your Snowflake line , unintentionaly , you breed a high paper / high PT score stallion to foundation mares ; it jumpstarts your show pony herd; you geld all the boys and keep then in your show barn ; you breed the fillies back to their father ( raising both the paper level and usually the PT score ). then do the same thing 1 more time . By then your herd should be pretty solid and you can " retire" the foundation mares ; or move them to a paddock to give you even lines
-
Silly question but do you test them after a few generations or never test them? I’m curious because I saw someone’s post that was selling Intact Bootstrap foals. So does that mean the foals have not been tested? Because wouldn’t they get altered if you test them?
-
Kind of makes me laugh! I had no idea that I was bootstrapping when I bred them. I just wanted some pretty Homozygous Snowflake foals. So I should Geld the Colts then and when the fillies get old enough I breed them to their Sire?
-
you can never really test them becuase they are always going to be not even ; personally when i bootstrapped i turned testing off ; and then hand click the boys to get snipped
if your stud is under 15 ; just geld the boys yes ; regarding showing vs auction ; if you have the barn space those babies all usually make good showhorses ; i cull if they PT under 10 ; if you dont have the space but need money quikly ; then auction is where they need to be -
I think I’m going to put the colts up for sale! Maybe someone will want them. You never know! LOL
