taking a plunge, I hope this is a good idea!
  • I just entered show horses 14 and above into the auction. I will be taking a huge hit to my show bonus to do this because my account is over 2 years old. I started this account in April 2018 and I'm very unhappy with how my show bonus turned out. So far it was only 139 show ponies to make room for upcoming show ponies from this breeding season as well as last breeding season. Can anyone give any suggestions as to how I can do better? i just sold 7 show barns to buy a 1000 stall show barn and still have my primary barn overfilled. Should I buy another, smaller show barn as well? I feel like there is something I could be doing better on this account! Any advise is welcome!
  • Any horses older than 10 can be auctioned for their lifetime payout. I'm not sure I can offer you any tips, but I have almost 600 show horses which are made up of mostly my 2G breeding rejects and I get a very tiny 5k hb's per day.

  • Thank you DarkFrost! I know about the 10+ auction I'm not sure i want to lose that many show ponies yet! However that is a possibility that is on the table, I am planning on checking how they are showing and weeding out the bad showers. Its just slow going with the twins and baby boy on the way! i have to do everything while they are napping and its difficult to sit for long periods of time now! I'm attempting to go through them now
  • is your 1k barn filled ? TBH ? the older show horses will earn better for you over time than the foals ; foals start at 0 ; the older ones already ahve points attached ; you might be better off auctioning the culls and keeping the older ones

  • I recommend keeping the older show ponies because they give you more HB's than the younger ones.

  • Buy that smaller barn.

Set a search with your sortings to cull, and bookmark that bad boy. Cull the last page. Reevaluate, and see if you need to cull again with different settings. I advise only doing 1 age group at a time.

I have a standard policy of keeping everything I can fit after rollover. So I aim for the high PT foals. (first cull)
Then not looking at my showers again until they are 14. At that point, I weed out the ones with the lowest earning potential all month long using my favorite bookmark. Those go into auction. (Second cull)
At 17 I run the same search again if I feel like it, and didn't lose enough at rollover. (final cull)

The account on this server has never merged so it's my benchmark for what I've learned over the years. I have almost 650 show horses but haven't gotten as far as a 1000 stall barn for them yet. I have almost 200 breeders and desperately want another pasture, but I need to grow more before I can support one.

I also completely restarted my lined project about a year ago, and wish I had kept a bootstrap line from my older generations because I felt a real dip the last few months in my overall pt score.

  • I don't cull any foals. All stay and show. When they turn 10, I start to use the search and order by Points This Year. That lets me know what show horses are pulling in very little points, which mean they won't be gaining much in total points/daily payout. They head to auction for their lifetime payout. I have followed this for well over a years, my daily show bonus is 411k after this rollover.

  • On Mesa server where I have a much newer barn, I have around 570 horses, and get nearly $14k daily show bonus. it wasn't all that much effort to get that either, as I play mostly on Hj1 and HJ2. Basically I bought up as many foundation horses I could afford that already have quite a few points. So foundations under 5yo with 200 or more points. To afford more I bred all the foundation mares I wasn't using in my own breeding, in the pasture, but they don't stay there usually they are in a show barn, then those foals were all sold at auction. I keep most of the foals by my special stallions, both intact and otherwise, the spays and gelds just go into a show barn. Realistically though it will be a while before they start making me money, so they are a long term investment. I needed the pointed foundations for shorter term money. I don't usually bother keeping spays and gelds that have a PT under 9.9. Unless a pointed foundation.

The older show horses you sold off, if any of them had levelled off near the top of their class they would be worth keeping. If you do a search near the end of a year to see who made the most points for the year you can see who the ones making you money are. Those 10yo or over that have levelled off and not adding to their points you are better off selling and buying in more with points

On Hj1 and HJ2 I just keep everything as I have the room to do so, on Mesa I don't so I'm a bit more proactive on who I keep and who I don't. Hope that helps a bit and give you some strategies to try

  • Thank you for the input everyone! I will definitely keep the rest of my older stock and maybe go on a buying spree! Maybe ill do both, or auction some leveled off ones and buy more pointed foundations! Time to come up with a plan!
  • It takes time and patience to build up your show herd. I didn't really have a show herd until the showing system was revamped to have the showing daily bonus. So I've spent the last few years playing catch up, and before rollover I had 250k in daily payout. I lost 10k after rollover, but I keep all my foals with a PT score of at least 11 and every month I try to cull show horses that aren't making at least 100 a day on their daily payout.

  • thank you! should I try to sell off or auction exceptional foundations I'm not going to be using anymore to raise money to buy show ponies?
  • your best bet for buying show ponies is getting them at 9 and keeping them for 1 month ( til 10 ) see who is or sint earning and auction off those that aren't ; i dont have the 100hb's a day rule ; but they do have to earn more than their show fees each month ; after all we dont actually have to feed and pay boarding fees lol

  • Isn't 100hb's a day around 1000 points?

  • I just murdered myself on my daily payout bonus. I went through all my show horses that were at least 17 years old. I'm sending 275 horses to auction because they were all under 100 hbs per day.

To be fair, that's to be expected since I had been neglecting barn management since the passing of my mom in June. I'm just finally feeling up to catching up on stuff so that's what is happening now.

I just have to remind myself that I'll now have room for better performing show stock. Who knows, I might even start getting a better increase in my daily payout.
  • Oh, I'm not sure if 100 hbs per day is 1000 points, but this is my best 18 year old show horse.

  • @Forestshadow ; Giraffe has
    Total points: 2761
    Daily Payout: 296 hb's
which is aprox 1HB per Point so yes 1k points = aprox 100hb Daily payout :)

  • IMO ; since they are all giving you over 100 HB's a day i d keep them
    Anni9

  • Yeah, that's why I am keeping them. The ones I posted were just the best ones for their age groups.
