Anyone want this Ice 20 colt before I turn him into a show pony?
  • Hey everyone! I have this little colt I love but his PT is not in my PT range I am breeding for so does anyone want him before I turn him into a show pony? If you have the Ice 20 license and like this little colt he is perfect for you! He is evenly bred, Consistent and a colt so when he gets older he can be bred 50 times a season! Please offer!

  • Hold off on gelding him for a little while please! @Taliesin, your thoughts, please? I would happily take him, but I can’t buy the Ice 20 license.
I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!
  • Okay, first off:

I have this little colt I love but his PT is not in my PT range I am breeding for

@cissycat, if you are trying to breed for higher PT in future generations, which I'm assuming is what you mean here, that's not the way to do it. Horses have two invisible stats: their breeding ability and their showing ability.

The showing ability is what gives you PT, and that says how well this horse will show. It is then a dead end, however, and has absolutely no impact on the showing abilities and therefore PT scores of this horse's foals.

Breeding ability is the score that determines how a horse will do as a breeder. That means that a foal's breeding ability score and showing ability score, aka PT, are both determined by the two parents' breeding scores. The parents' PT scores play absolutely no role in this.

You test the breeding score by doing breeding inspection, which I believe free accounts do not have, and by comparison testing. Most of us judge colts by comp testing them to their sires. If they're better than their sires, then your line is improving and the PT of your future foals will continue to get higher.

So, counter-intuitively, the best way to breed for high PT scores is to completely ignore the PT scores of your breeding stock.

So, @Nightphoenix, I have no idea how this colt will do as a breeder, since I can't see papers or the results of any comp testing. Regardless, without the license you can only buy him if he's gelded. You can't own intacts with licensed genes you don't have.
If you're asking if I'm interested in him, I'm good, but thank you. I have too many colts already!

  • Thank you @Taliesin! I didn't know that! I am thinking on getting a Basic maybe.

And @Nightphoenix if you still want him let me know when you get the license!
