    I hope I can explain this well enough

    On the genes, it will say something like DMSP/- or -/DMSP
    Do I have to breed one of each for the hopes of a Hom? Or doesn't it matter which side has the gene?

    It doesn't matter which side the gene is on, but its a very low chance of Hom.

    I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter which side has the gene. If the parent horses are: DMSP/- and -/DMSP or if they are both DMSP/- and DMSP/- both situations should have a 25% chance of getting a foal that is DMSP/DMSP.

    The first one means that the horse received that gene from the sire, and the second one means that the horse received that gene from the dam (or vice versa, I can’t remember for sure).

    Het x het = 25% no inheritance, 50% het, and 25% hom :)

    The sire's genes come first and the dam's second in every pair.
