Help for a beginner?
  • I'm very new to this, can I get some tips from you more experienced players? I have a lot of horses I don't particularly like that I just keep to get my daily hb up, and I don't know if I should just auction them off and find some horses I like more.

    I'm trying to become self-sustaining but it seems to be moving along very slowly, and I'm not entirely sure what to expect. I've read a few guides but I don't think I fully understand. Help and tips would be appreciated, thank you!

  • Hi there, Lleon, welcome to Hunt and Jump! I’ll ping a few of my more experienced friends to see if they can help.

    @CheshireFarms
    @Corvus

    Would you guys mind helping Lleon out? Thank you!

    You could also ask about this in the Player Support chat room. That helped me a lot when I was starting out :)

    I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!

  • Welcome, Lleon. This is an amazingly complex game, so don't be discouraged if you feel a little lost. I began playing in 2010, after watching over my daughter's shoulder for 8 months as she played the game before I got brave enough to start my own account. :)

    It does take time to build up a profitable stable. This is a game geared toward long term strategy play rather than instant gratification. Most of your income will come from showing, so building up a strong string of neuters is key. One recommendation is to have 3 neutered horses for every intact breeding horse. Showing all your intact horses that aren't in pasture is also very important.

    There's nothing wrong with sending horses that you don't like to the auction and concentrating on a few colors or patterns that you especially like.

    Since specific questions are much easier to answer, you may get more help by asking some, so we can focus in on your puzzles better. There will always be someone to come give you some answers.

  • Hi, I'm also pretty new to the game so I'm limited in the advice I can give. The only advice I have is that if it is any of your nine year olds you are looking at getting rid of, you should wait until they are ten before sending them to auction so you can get their lifetime payout.
  • What SandyCreek said
    Your show herd is your money makers. This is the most important area.
    Figure out what you like, breed for what you like, not for selling.
    Pasture is important for breeding as mares that are in there for 30 days get a breeding bonus. Try and stay away from AI until you build up your income, it's fun, but expensive.
    As you build, you'll be able to go into the Voucher area ... this is where you can exchange Hbs for IVs, which lead to all sorts of things.

    Never hesitate to ask your questions ... Great community always willing to give you a hand.
    P.S. for questions on specific horses it's always good to put their link up so we can see what your seeing. Bottom of the horse's page has the links, you can copy and paste it ... and always have fun :)

  • @OopsDotCom Yes!

    If I auctioned this girl right now, I would get 15142 for her in the auction because that is her current lifetime payout :)

    Thank you for your help! In the beginning, would it be better to hold onto the horses that bring in profits even though they're "not what I like," or should I auction them and find ones that I like the look of better, even though they might not bring in as much?
  • I would keep them till you build up the herd of horses you like. Unfortunately you could auction off these pointed foundations and if they are under 10 years of age you wont receive the money they have acquired . I would maybe spay/geld the ones you dont like and keep them as they build you more horsebucks and if you decide when they are 10 to not keep them then you will get the lifetime money they accumulate. When i first started i didnt relise that the pointed horses i had would be crucial in the begining. I ended up selling alot of them way to cheap and started out having difficulty making horsebucks. I didnt have much advice support in the beginning. I wish someone would have told me in the begining.
  • @Brandybrookes

    Thank you, but what exactly is a pointed horse? Is it a horse with higher points? If so, do beginners make higher-pointed horses as a boost? I feel like I heard something about that but I'm not sure.
  • Yeah, I let a bunch of 20 year olds age out because I didn't know the secret.
  • @Lleon, A "pointed horse" is usually referring to a horse that already comes with points when it is created. Only players who have a smaller daily showing bonus can create horses with points. I think once you hold 20,000 points total for your stables (daily bonus somewhere around 3,000 I can't quite remember), then all the horses you create come with zero points and you have to wait for them to show for a few years before they will contribute much to your showing bonus. That's why "pointed horses" are so valuable, they make your stable a lot of income each day even when they are very young.

    This post is long but does a great job of explaining how best to set up your stable to bring in a good daily showing bonus to support all of your breeding goals. https://www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/27151/attn-new-players-want-to-know-how-to-make-money-to-support-your-hj-habit#Item_32

  • @Lleon
    Until your horses have a total of 20,000 points earned by showing, each horse you create will come with a certain number of show points even before you have a chance to show them. Once your total points reach 20,000, horses you create and breed will have to earn points the hard way. A few may come with as many as 1000 points, but mostly they come with several hundreds.

    Since your nightly showing bonus is based on the total number of points your stable holds, this creation point boost is very helpful to new accounts.

    However, some newer players offer to sell these pointed horses for a quick game cash boost. I'm not certain about pricing for this, though.

  • If you are signed up to receive the newsletter that Ammit e-mails to us approximately once a month, there is a link to each server where you can create one pointed horse no matter whether you are a beginner or not. :)

  • When I sold some pointed horses, I priced them at 2/3 of their lifetime payout.
