Adding genes to chimeras?
-
Hey, I haven't done much of buying genes on the upgrades page thus far, but it is awesome that they're all available so I'm getting tempted.
I am curious how it works for chimeras though... it seems like the gene gets added to both sets of DNA if you buy a gene - is this something that always happens, or if you want to have it only be on one set is that possible to do as well? Is that the same story for the GMT lab or can you pick and choose which set to add genes on in there? I heard somewhere that you can GMT the inheritance chance for each DNA set.
Basically I'm just trying to figure out how to do some colour contrasts without breaking the bank.ID #265959 | He/him | Breeding Black Satin, Liver, and Grullo Arcturus Horses | Licenses: Mushroom, DFP2, Onyx, Axiom Blue and Green -
On the GMT options, right at the bottom there is an inheritance chance option, you can change it there for each strand.
If you use GMT lab you’ll need to add genes to both strands if you want 50/50, but if you add via RGS it’ll add to both strands.HJ1: 266615

The easiest way I've found to add separate genes to each set is to GMT two separate horses and then merge them.Post edited by bluchrystals at 2020-12-21 12:04:06

It's important that we use clear terminology to prevent confusion. One set of DNA has two strands. Most horses have one set of DNA. Chimeras have two sets of DNA.
The RGS will add the gene to both sets of DNA, the GMT lab will edit just one strand from one set.Post edited by Ammit at 2020-12-21 11:18:04Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Anything bought through the RGS will add to both sets... Anything added through the GMT lab you can choose which sets you want to add to... You can also change the inheritance and merge horses to make chimeras in the GMT lab...
If wanting to make a horse with one set of genes on one set but not the other and the genes are only available through the RGS (example: fantasy genes), the only way to achieve it is to mod 2 horses into what you want each set to look like and then merge them in the GMT lab..Thanked by 1Ammit -
Or if what you are adding exists in the GMT lab, do the RGS genes first and then change the duplicate you didn't want in the GMT lab. Otherwise, @Bambi207 gave a good idea for creating your own chimera to get exactly what you want.HJ1: 266615
