I Finally Got My First Ever Gold Papered 5th Gen Mare!
-
After 3 bust seasons of trying to get a Gold filly from my small 4th gen heard and with this year being so hard for me, I had almost given up on breeding my pastures this time round but decided to go ahead with breeding them at the last minute and I got a wonderful surprise (it seems like a small miracle with everything that's going on right now)! I'm so happy with this girl that I could cry! She got the DP & Kit M and turned out to be a beautiful leopard Appy! Out of 8 foals she is the only one that papered Gold and now I finally have a mare for my Star papered 5th gen stud(who's 3 years old now) when she grows up too! :x
5G Golden Star Het DP M
And this is my Star boy from a few seasons ago who will be impatiently waiting for her to grow up lol!

Aww congrats! I remember getting my first *star boy.Licensed for Mushroom,Onyx, Watercolor, Ice 13, ice 16, Phantom lace, Phantom Diamond sparkle.

Congratulations!
I'm only on 3G so no Golds or Stars for me but I'll keep an eye on yours to see how they come along in the next few seasons.HJ1: 266615

Thanks everyone!
I do remember when I got my Star boy there a few months ago too @GildedFire, this season was actually his first breeding season except that I don't have any mares to breed him to yet! So definitely can't wait to start using him when my girl there grows up!
And I'm only Just starting to get a few of my first SBA passing 5th gens from my still very small herd of 4th (which only has about 8 breeding mares right now with 2 more ready next season) so I have been slowly working up to this point and am hoping for a few more! Right now these two are my Only Star and Gold 5Gs @DarkFrost, so I guess we will both see how it goes from there lol!
I still can't believe that I finally bred my own Gold filly myself yet, was my only breeding goal the past few months! It kinda makes everything seem more bearable in a weird kind of way.Post edited by HorseAngel at 2020-12-28 14:44:48Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!

Congratulations! Just wait til you get a *Gold at 4G - it feels amazing. :D Just goes to show your program is improving, I'm so happy for you!
-
Oh yes. I remember getting excited when I started getting Golds and Stars at 5th gen, now I get happy if I get a few Stars and Golds at 4th gen per season. I keep only superior breeding stock, so it's not a lack of quality with my lines, it's just RNG luck. I do require Star and Gold for 5th gen, A and blue for 3rd gen.
That being said, congrats!Post edited by Forestshadow at 2020-12-28 21:57:52 -
Congrats!
Discipline when it comes to quality is a really hard thing to achieve in this game because you'll get babies that are so pretty and you want to keep them all but you know deep down that they won't fit in your program..
When I started being strict I had to do SBA, papering and snipping if they didn't paper the way I wanted them to before even looking at their pages and comparison testing and snipping if need be before their pictures loaded in order for me to not be compelled to keep them intact!Thanked by 1SharayahStables -
Lol that's how I do it too, Bambi. I go to their control panels after I've already run them through SBA and click on comp test while the images are still being generated. If not sup, geld before I look at the loaded image.
-
Thank you everyone! It really helps!
@Sharayah, yes this feels like my Biggest Achievement on the game so far and I have been playing for about a year and a half lol!
@Forestshadow & @Bambi207, I have been working on having discipline and being strict to try and improve quality, though I will admit that I may have fallen to a pretty face and kept a few AGA here and there lol. I probably need to clear them out and keep only the Sup, But they all must pass SBA and I do Comp test them too! Right now my lines are in general: Yellow/Red for foundation, at least Red/B for 2G(no yellows), A/Blue & Red/B for 3G(only if they are superior reds), and Only Superior A/Blue for my 4G so far. I don't know how my 5G will look but I am certainly going to require Gold/Star for 6G, when ever I get there! I may need to try out your method though to help not keep all the pretty babies lol!Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!

Yeah it was a gradual process for me too. At first I had to keep 3rd gens that were B and Red, and so on. But eventually my lines got better and better so I was able to tighten the minimum criteria required to keep breeding stock. It's just something that will take time. You're on a good track. Just don't keep the pretties that don't pass lol.
Yeah, I start with Yellow/Red and C/B for foundations and still do to this day. No yellows and C for 2nd gen either. It took me a long time until I was able to consistently get Blues and As for 3rd gen, you'll get there too.
Having pastures have really helped, I've found. -
Thanks, that's good to know! I thought I was legging a bit with my horses. Lol, the ones that don't pass still make pretty show ponies at least!
Yeah, pastures do really help and I'm behind on getting any more of them. I need more pastures sooner than later for my growing 4G & 5G & a pasture for the beginnings of my fantasy lines but at the same time need to save for more barns! I guess I will get it all setup eventually, just not a lot of money at the moment. I still have to hand breed most of my barns, so far its doing ok though!Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! It's really hard to cull by quality and colour, you'll end up with very few horses. I'm definitely crying snipping some of my Blue 2nd gens because they are too far off colourwise.
Keep going, you'll get where you want to be even if you have to go back and cull things to move forward! :DHJ1: 266615

Thank you for the encouragement DarkFrost!
Yeah, definitely not always so easy to do! I certainly feel it when some of my prettiest don't test sup or you get one that even papered up but sadly didn't get the genes you wanted. I think it's actually time for me to go though again and do a cull lol, should be fun(as you try not to give in to the pretty ponies or cry as you snip them)!

Oh I can certainly sympathize, I've gotten several 2nd gen As and Blues (don't require that papering level until 3rd gen) that definitely were far too plain and would have required too much GMT work to be kept. So I've had to sadly geld/spay them. So yeah I can relate to the pain.

I’m mostly working on my second and third gen with one or two fourth gen here and there. I’m working on slowly collecting mares since I have quite a few stallions. Since I’m still collecting mares at the moment, I do a sort of compromise. I keep all superior fillies intact. When it comes to the as good as fillies, I keep them intact if they are consistent, paper higher than their dams, or have a ridiculously awesome gene combo that I had an extremely low chance of getting!I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!

That's understandable. Myself, I'm ruthless with the AGAs. Snip snip.Thanked by 1Nightphoenix

As my herd grows I will slowly get more and more strict with the AGA fillies. Right now an AGA filly needs to have one of those three requirements to stay intact. In a few months I’ll probably shift to two out of three requirements, then eventually, when I have a really great broodmare herd, an AGA filly will need to have all three requirements for me to keep her intact :)
Also, @HorseAngel, maybe this will help:
When I cull, I don’t look at the images, only the genetics. I cull the ones who are genetically similar by keeping the horses that have a more diverse genotype.
In other words, say I have two chocolate palomino 2G mares of the same quality. Mare A isn’t really all that special. She’s a het DP chocolate palomino with no agouti genes, white genes, modifier genes, or anything else like that, just a plain chocolate palomino.
Mare B shares the same phenotype as mare A, but mare B is het nd1, het brown, and het PATN1. Mare B’s genotype is more diverse than mare A’s, and will give me more genes to work with when breeding. So I would keep mare B and cull mare A :)Post edited by Nightphoenix at 2020-12-30 10:30:34I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. Yeah, Night, that's what I did at the beginning. It was a gradual process. Eventually you'll get to the point where you don't need to keep any AGAs. For myself, I just tell there's always next breeding season for me to get a superior to parent foal, but I have a big enough herd of breeding stock now to make that possible. And I don't keep the plain ones either. I will keep more plain foals as long as I like the look of them, I've had some beautiful foals that were only DP and appy, but were buckskins or browns. I'll keep those as long as they meet the criteria of being sup to dam, have StySty and DP.Thanked by 1Nightphoenix

Wow! That's a lot of great advice! Thanks so much @Nightphoenix (and @Forestshadow)!
When I first started, I just had a big general herd of horses that I liked and kinda thrown them all together (they still make up most of my primary herd lol) and went from there. Now I have actual color goals and know more about what I really want, so I am going to be shifting everything eventually and I have been adding more Appy to it already (which I really love) too! I have a small DP Pearl line that I started, though everything is still kinda together(pasture space problems) but going ok. At first i kept the plain ones and AGA mares too because I didn't really have any brood mares yet(curse of the colts most times lol). Now I will be slowly culling most of them! I ten toward consistent vs inconsistent as well. I will have too certainly try that, I think it will help a bit! :)Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!

Yeah, it's nice to have color goals. I've had color goals change over the years, though, but I think I'm pretty much set now more or less.
Oh when I get the curse of the colts, I'm like yay! More show horses! -
Lol, pretty much the same thing happens to all my colts because I don't have the funds to GMT them all to mares! ;)Celestial Angels, The Balinor Breed! We Specialize In Riding Horses & Ponies!
