Horse Color Genetics can be amazing!

So, I was using my DHH--Exceptional Producing Cream--this evening, and found some odd outliers that did indeed carry a copy of Cream but the rest of their gene set had me scratching my head.
This filly is a Buckskin with a copy of Sooty--nothing too surprising here.

This one is a Palomino, but since she's also homozygous Ssty, there's no classic golden coat to be seen.
32521 Ex Pro Ccr 3
Here's her twin, another homozygous Ssty Palomino.
32521 Ex Pro Ccr 5
This was the first one that made me blink. When I first saw her I thought, "What's a Bay doing here?" The gene test reported her as a Buckskin, however, so I though, she must have either homozygous Sooty, or maybe a copy of DP.
32521 Ex Pro Ccr 4
Sure enough, she's heterozygous DP, with no Sooty in sight.
Ah, at last, a classic golden palomino shines forth.
32521 Ex Pro Ccr 6
Yet another Buckskin. Perhaps one copy of Sooty? Nope, no darkening genes at all.
32521 Ex Pro Ccr 7
Last but not least, one that isn't visibly a cream carrier, but one of my very early experiences in Hunt and Jump was a Smokey Black mare, so I knew what I was seeing. It takes two copies of Cream to lighten the coat of a black horse, and this one also carries roan, so she's technically Smokey Blue Roan.

Thanks, Ammit, for the varied results of this herd helper. It's been a lot of fun.Post edited by SandyCreekAcres at 2021-03-25 17:55:10Thanked by 1Ammit -
So, two more players took shares of this DHH, so I got to make two more fillies.
This filly turned out Homozygous Ccr, a pale cremello.
32521 Ex Pro Ccr 9
And this one, ah, she's a genetic treasure, not only homozygous Dun, so a Dun Palomino, she's also been blessed with a copy of DP. I think she's pretty stunning.
32521 Ex Pro Ccr 10
There are still two more shares available for just under 9 hours. Come join me in exploring all the variability that's available in horses with the Ccr gene. :D -
I got a gray.

She's lovely, Xzenia. Thanks for sharing this fascinating herd helper.
Here's the golden buckskin that I got.

Turns out that she has one copy of Dun, along with her cream. -
Gave you a click :)

Thanks, annismyrph. Sadly, I was out of the house all morning, so I missed being able to make one final filly.
Your filly is lovely and very distinctive. The correct spelling is either Bend Or, the name of a stallion who showed them, or sometimes Ben d'Or. -
thanks ; i wasnt sure of the spelling which is why i used the ?? she is for public sale btw at create price if you wanted her
-
Thanks. I snapped her up. I think I need to start a Cream pasture. Now to find a stallion for it.

I'd love to have him, if you truly don't need him. You can put him in this Horse Exchange (aka Buddy Chat) of mine.

Thank you very much. I have picked him up. He'll be a great addition to this new line.

I'm pretty sure the marks on the roan are meant to be corn marks/spots, not Bend Or spots. Roans tend to have nicks/scrapes/bug bites/hives grow back hair that matches the base color without the white ticking (and thus appear darker on the overall coat).
Corn marks are unique to roans, while Bend Or spots appear on solid color horses (usually red-based ones)."Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving." - PTerry Pratchett
