Switch to mare
-
This might be repetitive, sorry if it is. I have lots of even bred A/star colts, to many I think, that have tested superior to sire. Would it be worth it to switch them to mares? Would that help improve the mare lines? I don’t really want to alter them. Thanks all.

@SheWolfMustang27 ; the cost is 1GMT each ; so you ll just need to balance which is better for you HB bank lol ; I know several players who do just that as the colt line seems to improve faster than the mare line does. IMO ; do your favorites and let the rest be show ponies :)

I do switch my colts to mares occasionally, especially if its from my Embryo breedings. And I am not shy about gelding/spaying. If they don't get the right genes, I geld them. I kept 11 foals intact out of 100 foals from my first pasture....lots of snipping due to consistency or not superior, and some because they weren't homozygous DP or inherited the W20 instead their roan or sabino.

I have switched my studs to mares in the past, but I’m extremely picky if I have end up doing it now. The colt must test superior to sire and he must test aga my benchmark stallion for that generation. Then and only then do I consider switching them over. Because a colt can test superior to sire and only aga his dam, I had half a dozen colts do that to me and I didn’t get one good offspring out of them. So now if I’m going to even contemplate turning a colt into a mare he has to be the cream of the crop, and only then will I consider it.
On the other hand I’m someone who doesn’t have a problem snipping colts. So without seeing them I’d say either comparison test them all or snip them. But everyone plays the game differently so do whatever makes you happy. -
Thanks guys. I don’t really worry about the genetics to much, I breed KP so that mostly solves that problem lol. I’ve tried to keep only the superior colts that also have any “extra/bonus “ genes like (SN, DP, S+) or are my favorites, as long as they meet what I want and test superior. Guess I’m gonna have to switch a couple and try it. I might learn something lol. Thanks everyone
