Creating Embryos
  • Sorry if this is posted elsewhere: I wanted to ask if, when creating an embryo, you can only create one embryo per mare, per year - the same as a foal - or whether you can create multiple embryos from the same mare the same year. I thought I saw somewhere that you can create more than one foal per year from a mare, but not sure if there's a way to do it. I have a couple of mares who are getting up there in age, and I wanted to see if there was any way to get more than a single foal per year, even if it's only in embryo form.

Also, can basic upgrade accounts create and implant embryos, or is that limited to premium accounts? It looks like I have the ability to do it, when I go to the Advanced Breeding Lab, but wanted to make sure.

    Thanks!
  • You can create as many embryos as you have eggs, and you can implant those for goals as many as you have.
  • You can pull an egg from an unbred mare every 5 days, and create embryos with them as you like. But not sure what basic vs premium accounts can do. Just check you are creating an embryo with the egg, not the mare, otherwise I think it will count as being bred? Not sure though as I've pretty much always had premium lol!

  • You can create embryos in two ways:
First is with eggs, so by combining an egg with a straw. I visualize this as that the eggs are collected from the mare, stored separately and then outside her body are inseminated with a straw resulting in an embryo. This way can only be done with a premium membership, as only premium accounts can pull and use eggs.

The second way is done with just the mare and a straw. I always visualize it that the mare is inseminated with a straw and then the resulting embryo is collected and stored. This can be done with a basic account.

Collecting eggs can be done every 5 days, so when you collect an egg from your mare on may 1st for example, you can collect another egg on may 6th, then again on May 11th and so on. This does not count as being bred. A mare is bred by being live covered, being bred with a straw or when you flush her (mass pull eggs). She is also bred when you use her to implant an embryo.

This is the same with embryo creation, you can create an embryo every 5 days as well, so on May 1st, may 6th etc. You cannot mass create embryos, just one at a time. You just go to the 'create an embryo' page and select the desired mare from the list and pair her with a straw and click on create. After 5 days the mare will appear again in the list as long as you don't breed her (live breed / use a straw / implant an embryo).

I've had a basic account for years now and it took me years to find out it was possible to create more than 1 embryo each season.

A note though: embryo breeding is quite costly, so keep that in mind when creating them. If I remember correctly creating is 3k and implanting 5k so the foal will cost you 8k.

    Hope this answered your question!
