Do you have any tips/tricks/advice on showing?
-
I've finally got into keeping geldings and spayed mares and I'm just wondering how to make sure I'm keeping the best ones. Like does the consistency and Performance Test Grade matter less or more than the Testing Score? When do you know to cull ones that aren't doing well? And just any other tips/tricks/advice anyone could give me would be awesome!
I was more into the breeding aspect of the game my first 10 months of playing but now that I realize how important the daily pay out is and I'd definitely like to increase it.
Thanks! -
make sure you train and show every.single.week. In the beginning its more important to keep as many as you can; good rule of thumb is 2 or 3 show horses for each breeding horse ; that way your barn becomes sustainable and pays for it self. I would Cull anything under 10PT once you have filled a couple of barns with show horses ; don't forget foals take a full month before they start really being able to earn. I dont really worry about Constistency vs non cons . The NonCons permform great one day then lousy another time ; but it pretty much equals out over time. when a show horse turns 10 ; check to see where s/he is placing in their classes ; top 4 are usually ok to keep bottom 4 get culled ; middle depends on barn space. good luck !

Anything over PT of 9 is going to bring in good points. You want a variety of PTs as they all will end up in varying levels as they reach their max level. I also use the autoshow feature. My biggest payouts are my horses that end up in the 7W and 8W levels. As soon as they hit 10 years old, I start to cull poor point earners. Generally all horses in 8L get culled because they barely bring in points. I auction them for their lifetime payout.
My 2nd gen show horses (from Ex Pro or B papered sires) are my largest show herd. They are maxing at 7W and make a killing in points. As soon as they hit 8L, they get auctioned. I use the advanced sort feature of Points This Year when doing a 10 year old cull. If they are in the bottom, they head to auction. This gives me room every breeding season for new foals that earn their keep. I'm trying not to buy anymore barns and just keep my show herd at the current size. They are making me 575k every day right now, but I just threw a TON in the auction, so it will drop for a week or so until the new ones build it up. -
Doing a quick scan of your barn, you have more stallions than you need. Cull those boys into show geldings to make you more points. With my large barn, I only have about 75 stallions for breeding. I am quick to snip.
