Just joined today - horse is leveled off?
-
Hello! I'm Jacque, I just joined today! I just had a couple questions - So I followed the New User Guide & I have 5 horses, all mares, and all three-year-olds. I made sure when I trained them that I had them training for the right disciple, and all of them said "Trained for the Week" except one, which said leveled off. At first I thought it was a mistake on my part, maybe I trained her in the wrong disciple, that sort of thing, then I remembered that each horse has a potential max, and now I'm thinking that she hit hers already, even though it's only been one training session? I just wanted to know if I am correct in that thinking, and if not, what do I do with her? Is it worth it to keep her and wait until she's breed-able? and if so, should I keep training her until she ages? From my understanding, horses who have hit their max still gain minimal amounts of skill with each training. Would that help when it comes to breeding? (I'm not entirely sure how foals/genetic potential from parents work in this game yet, haven't gotten that far on reading!)

Sounds like she has reached her max. If you run her through Performance Testing I'm willing to bet she has a pretty low score, probably 4 or under.Imation Stud ID# 2609

Keep hold of her. When I started playing I also followed the New User Guide and couldn't understand why one of my mares wasn't moving up the levels (we didn't have the 'trained for week/levelled off' info back then). When I got an upgrade and tested her PT it was 2.2, but she produced some great foals. I used to use her as an example to new players who queried low PT foundation breeding stock. It used to be said often on the old forum - and it is very true - that showing ability is no indicator of breeding ability. I'm willing to bet that your mare will produce some really good foals.Thanked by 1MW Stables

A hearty second to White Valley's comment. I also had a foundation mare with a PT about the same as hers. She papered Red, which is a very good papering for a foundation mare, and was one of my favorite brood mares, though she never did make a good show horse.

Thanks, everyone! (: I entered her in a show just to see how'd she do and she won it, although I'm not sure how good she'd be as a breeder as I had the showing aptitude test done on her and it said she could go either way. I guess we'll see!
-
Yes, you can only wait and see on the breeding ability. Also, She probably turned out lucky in her class. There were only 2 horses in the class, and her base score is pretty good, but she won't every get much higher and will not be able to gain many points in her probable lifetime. I would advise putting her through the Mare Advice test as well. That will tell you if she will be an ok broodmare. If that test spays her, then she definitely should be sent to the auction.

The showing aptitude test only ever says 'could go either way' or 'would make a much better show horse than breeder' (and will automatically geld/spay if you have not disabled this). It is very rare for a created foundation horse to fail SAT - someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is set up that way to make sure almost all creates are reasonable breeding stock. SandyCreek Acres is right, put her through Mare Advice, it is free for the basic test (as is Gelding Advice for stallions).
-
Hmm. I'm not sure exactly how often it happens, but I've had new creates neutered by SAT often enough that I remember it happening. I've sent more than one to the auction because they had quite low PT scores as well.
-
I joined 4 months ago and have had a number of creates and herd helpers fail SAT and get gelded or spayed.
In fact my second ever horse failed SAT, got gelded and then papered Showable Only. Glad I didn't auction him after gelding as he's clocking up points weekly -
I have heaps of creates fail SAT, much less fail SMA, but that's probably because I always do SAT first
-
I always do SMA first and see it the other way around, rarely ever does a horse that passed SMA fail SAT. Like maybe 1 out of every 300. Luckily both catch them pretty well.Imation Stud ID# 2609
