Keep or Sell?

I love her coloring, but she's a bad shower and is costing me more money than she's making. Should I keep her?

    Thanks guys!

I am currently working on developing my own line :) I'm not very far yet, but I'm getting there!
  • If you want to keep breeding her, then by all means, keep her. Just don't show her. Foundation horses often not both good at showing and breeding. (I'd definitely spay that filly of hers, though.
  • You cannot just show horses every week non-stop, each week a foundation will gain roughly three points from training. If you are going to hand-show you must choose the correct time when to show a horse, generally just before it levels up it should be in a good spot to earn some money.
That horse could still earn you money if you just enter her at the right time. Also I agree with Stone Silo Farm, definitely spay her offspring.
Hopefully someone can further explain the showing system as I am very short on internet time!

    "Making Money
Each show horse can only make a small amount of money from each show, but a with a huge band of show horses those small amounts add up into big profits.
A solid showing heard will have horses in a very wide range of abilities (PT scores) and ages. The more you diversify your herd the less likley all your horses will hit a rough patch at the same time.
Horses who has leveled off (stopped increasing in training) can be your best money makers and your biggest money losers. Monitor your horses, if a horse does not increase his score after two or three weeks he has probably leveled off.
If a leveled off horse is making money in his classes, by all means enter him like mad, and keep entering until he levels up.
If a leveled off horse is not making money in his classes take a close look at them. If they are just a bit too low to make money try waiting a few months. Leveled horses train very slow but they do increase. After a few months they may be in a solid winning spot.
If your leveled off horse is several points to low to make money or has just leveled after a long period of being in a winning spot it is time to send them to FSYYC.
The higher the PT of a horse the older they will be when they level off.
The best and most profitable barns will have the largest number of leveled off horses possible. Leveled horses that are in the money can produce income for years.
The score a horse earns in a class and the level he obtains are less important then how much profit they make.
    Leveling
Leveling occurs naturally even if a horse is not shown.
Leveling is based on a horses amount of training only but a horse's natural talent will figure into his final score.
That means each horse will reach different levels at slightly different ages and scores. Getting this combination exactly right to make big money is largely due to luck. Some horses will be lucky in profit, others will never be."
    - Ammit.

http://www.kinetocoredesign.com/showthread.php?36941-How-to-Effectively-Show-Your-Horses <- this is a great read. Also I'm pretty sure with foundation horses you have a higher chance of them being a better show horse than b

  • Thanks guys! I'll probably keep and breed her. I'm getting around to spaying her filly.
    Thanks again!
