Prior to selling a vast majority of my herd, so i could make way for horses that fit my program better, I had 109 stalls in primary, now i have 101? why did that happen and how do i gain them back?

There is a little bar that tracks your bonus stalls on your home page. You earn stalls at first by all the new member getting started "quests".

As an established member, you can earn progress pounts only by breeding and creating horses. You lose progress points when you auction those horses. If you sell horses back to the game, you do not lose progress points. Those points add up to bonus stalls

If you look at some longer playing players, they have tons of extra stalls in their primary. It goes up and down a little bit for me.

I wanted to add the progress bar is actually on the side bar to the right on a desktop view. I can't remember where it is on a mobile view. You can see how creating or breeding a horse adds 0.5% each time.

So basically I need to add them back up? i have plenty of barns so losing a couple in primary isnt going to do much

Yup, breeding and creating horses will add that back up. Auctioning takes them away. Selling back to the game does not affect it.
