Problems with auto breed on pastures
  • It's done it to me a few times, but it just did it on one of my big pastures with all sorts of mares in it. The stallions were only in there for 5 minutes and I realised my mistake and tried to hurry and move them out, but no that bloody auto breed not only bred many of my older lined horses that I was really hoping to get another foal out of before they passed, but also used up the breeding slots so can't use again on the mares they were supposed to be used on.

What is even the advantage of this feature?! It's one of the new features that really pisses me off!!! It's hard enough moving horses around now without the direct add to pastures that we used to be able to do, and now with this I feel I really should just give up on pasture breeding, it's become a real pain

Anyway vent over, I know Ammit has been sick and not expecting anything to change. I know the reason for no direct add add from pastures. Just feeling a bit frustrated

  • Ouch, that does bite. I think its for when you put horses in before breeding season and before pastures open type thing? If you know where im going with that. And i understand your frustration with the older mares, i have a few i got intact foals from this season that were faveorite mares of mine.
Licensed for Mushroom,Onyx, Watercolor, Ice 13, ice 16, Phantom lace, Phantom Diamond sparkle.
  • I have one particular mare that I'm waiting for full on so I just swapped my real stud out with an underaged one until she's ready.

  • oh lord
Licensed for Mushroom,Onyx, Watercolor, Ice 13, ice 16, Phantom lace, Phantom Diamond sparkle.
  • I really wish this feature was optional, just like auto showing is
  • I would definitely prefer it be optional.

  • Please remember the forum posting rules.

There is no solution for it at the moment (other than to sort our your breeding earlier), but it is something we can look into.

  • I ve been trying to leave 1 pasture with no stud in it so i can swap the mares around. Also there is a bulk way to do it ? If you click a bunch of the mares and the bottom of the page you can pick were to put them? Barn or Pasture and move them in chunks ; just like the way we can move them from barn to pasture / a different barn or auction?

  • Bulk moving: Yep I do that all the time. Though again for the purposes they are talking about I find just removing breedable stallions easier and safer. Too each their own, I also have the time and a small enough stable to micromanage my herd like. Maybe I'll feel different when my stable is bigger.

  • My mares all live in their designated pasture, sorted by generation and genes. I move stallions in at the beginning of the month, let them autobreed and then move the studs out. Sort foals after. I have a bunch of pastures to keep them all sorted but I rarely move the mares.

  • I keep a 100 pasture to help build up the pasture bonus. Mares 2 years old go in to that pasture then I sort through once they reach 4 and put them into the correct pastures. Pastures are sorted up to 3rd Gens; by genes and generation. I have very few 4th and 5th Gens so they get put in respective pastures. I also go through the pastures and take anyone out that is 19 as it's the last month for their breeding age. It works for me and lets me decide if I want to breed them on the 5th of the month when pastures open for me or just let the pasture Auto Breed.

  • I just never take my stallions or mares out so I don’t have to worry about a horse being in the wrong place :)

I also have dedicated pasture stallions and dedicated hand breeding stallions, so I don’t need to worry about moving them.

I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!
  • My mares live in their respective pastures year around. I remove mares for only a few reasons.
    1. They're 19 years old and already bred, so it's time to retire them.
    2. They failed to meet their AFPT goals for their generations, so I spay and yum them.
    3. They had the fewest foals for their age and I need to cull to fit new stock in
    5. I have too many young stock and need to cull based on genes to fit the new stock in.

It's definitely become a juggling act since I cut down to 1 pasture per generation. I used to have 2 pastures per generation, but it meant double the work and double the time investment.

However, that being said, I can see where Kintara is coming from. I had put 3 boys in their pasture and reloaded the pasture page so I could click the manual breed button. It wasn't even maybe 3 minutes and they were already bred when the pasture page refreshened, lol.

I generally don't put my boys into their pastures until I'm ready to breed that pasture, and I do it one pasture at a time.
  • I kind of like the autobreeding honestly (even though I often end up breeding mine early because I'm impatient). It is far more realistic in real life you can't leave studs in a pasture with mares and just tell them not to breed, if the mare is open they will get bred. Pastures also don't auto breed until after the 14th so they won't auto breed prior to that. My mares live in their pastures, I remove the studs and put in the new ones after breeding closes every month. I'm not saying I never have had a whoops.. but to me that makes it all the more realistic.. like a stud on the ranch jumping a fence..
Licenses for everything. I have a pixel pony hoarding problem.

  • Yeh my mares live in the pastures, the stallions I change around though as I use different ones

  • He's not going to breed 50 mares in 5 minutes though Jayda if you are going to realistic!

  • Scaled to match game time that might be realistic...
  • The problem is one person in this server has HUNDREDS pastures and the game has to cycle that fast to get to all of hers. I may have to tell her sorry you have exceeded reasonable capacity and all of her pastures won't run in a season.

  • Oh really, I didn't know about that 1 person having so many pastures. Interesting tidbit.

Ammit, what would you define as "reasonable capacity" in terms of pastures ?

  • I was under the impression ( I think I read it somewhere ) auto breeding only did 500 horses ? Or was that before the update?

  • I accidentally added 4 studs to my sifting pasture, I must have included them by mistake when moving my 3-year-olds. I bred 60+ mares to the wrong stud, but that's my error - a warning when adding studs would be useful for me, but I like the auto breeding feature personally.

  • Frankly a warning when it will instantly breed upon adding is probably all it needs. That's a great idea!

  • I personally would like an option to disable to auto breed, I only bred one pasture at a time but going back and forth between barns, searches and pastures means I do sometimes put stallions in the wrong pasture as I'm doing it from a different page. A warning wouldn't help that much unless I could stop it with the warning? I mean you don't get much time if you've put them in the wrong place?
