I have always liked hunter or emerald green on a chestnut.

Our little barn likes the matchy too! Whenever we ride, generally our shirts, polos, ear nets all match! There is a rainbow of colors we all play with.

You could mix it up with a plaid or other pattern on the pad, and then match legs to ears with a coordinating color that is part of the pattern.

I have a plaid saddle pad that I like to use that has both hunter green and navy so I can mix up my polos for fun.

I know a Morgan horse eventer that wears Navy and Orange as his colors when he competes. His dressage phase is just colored piping on the pad and colored ear net. His cross-country phase there is orange and blue everywhere including stirrups, rider jacket, and even piping on his saddle and bridle.

I would just go with your favorite color. If you don’t think your mare will look good in that color, than pick your next favorite.

My favorite color is a deep red, my mare is black so picking a color is easy and she looks stunning regardless. I am still working on getting all red for her. But I already know my next set will either be blue or purple.
