A comparison testing spree and mare lag woes
-
So yesterday I ended up down a several hour long rabbit hole that started innocently enough and ended with like 7 boosts and two clones. :))
I was going to GMT a bunch of surplus colts into mares so I can actually use them! But I hit a snag with my 3Gs when my best colt, very the much the best, was the one who missed basically all of the colour genes I want. And I couldn’t add them in the GMT lab because they weren’t there. Oh noes!
So this started a boosting spree on one of my next best colts with 4!! Boosts to get him up to par :-O
That solved one correctly coloured stallion for the coming season! But what about the second?
This is where the mare lag woes come in :))
I cloned one of the studs I used to for comparison testing the stallions and made him a mare, with my intention being finding a mare that compares to him, GMT to a stallion. I also cloned the best 3G stallion and turned that clone to a mare for the same reason.
And I discovered that even my best mares are woefully behind my best stallions. Makes sense, I guess, since I always have too many stallions and am always trying to narrow them down. Not quite as much with mares.
So I ended up having to boost up another stallion anyway. :))
All isn’t lost though! I found another way to differentiate my mare quality through comparison testing so I can bring their quality up more!
I do have post-spending-spree guilt though because yesterday cost me
1,100,000 in IV Purchase
432,000 in comparison testing
Plus real some money I probably shouldn’t have spent :))
It will be worth it, though!
Anyway, here are my clones!
Px4 Hometown Cowgirl
Px3 How About Slate Too
Their colours aren’t exciting, but their quality will help bring my mares up hopefully! That and additional comparison testing. -
Holy smokes! That's so funny. I only just innocently started doing gene modifying on lined horses this month... I had no idea the spiral I was getting into!
Looks like it should be worth it though, those two are pretty! :) -
Yeah once you go down the rabbit hole it’s hard to stop :)) With comparison testing, too! “Well, how does that horse compact to this horse! And that one! And that one!”
Next thing I know, I’ve spent all my hbs :))
-
I’m about go start my next round of comparison testing brought to you by my daily bonus :))
Not going to be going quite so crazy this time. Hopefully. Lol -
During Breeding season i spend my daily bonus on comp testing the boys to their daddy's ; then if i have enough left over i start to test against their brothers / cousins / the horse in the next pasture lol. I know the pain and the joy rofls
-
I always comp test the boys to their sires, and their half brothers if there are any.
-
I just realized that my fixation on all of that yesterday meant that I missed out on creating horses from my favorite herd helper that I finally got for the first time in a long time yesterday. Oops.

But I have a double cream herd helper I can use during Appy hour today!
-
I ll keep an eye out for it ; if i get it I ll message you :)

Thank you!
