Graph of PT vs Points
-
I've been collecting data on show horses for a while, but changed my mind a few times on exactly what I was looking for.
Finally got it into a chart!
X-axis: PT, from 9.6 to 14.0 (missing 12.7- not enough data.)
Y-axis: Average points earned by age 17 horses with each PT (as of the end of their 17th game year).

Caveats:
1. Using medians instead of averages would probably be more relevant. I'll try to remember when I update!
2. For a while, I didn't have many horses with PTs in the 12s. So there are far fewer horses represented in those averages than in the 13s or 11s. The overall pattern should hold up, but each 12-something PT's average is very likely to change.
As I add more horses (I try to keep one horse with each PT every season), the chart will get more accurate.
I've been all up in the details all morning, so I might have left out some big-picture context. Let me know if something needs more explanation! -
It's a bit odd to see the numbers going backward, but great to see how much PT increases points.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Wow this is really neat and will be very useful. Thank you for the data tracking and for posting it! It's interesting how 10.3-10.6 seems to be a nice sweet spot in the sub-13 PT ponies.Bluegrass 272432 | Forest 54250 | Mesa 9056

@Ammit Somehow counting down seemed to make more sense at the time? I may change that when I update it.
@Menstrosity More broadly, the low 11s are just a bad spot. About 10.9-11.5 and 11.7 are the only ones where the mean is below 1000.
Even with the same score, there's a lot of variation between horses. That's why I think medians would represent better. Like, at 10.7 the highest pointed horse had 2811, the lowest had 373.5, which is lower than the lowest 11.0 horse.
Nothing really replaces culling your show herd occasionally! -
@SherwoodStables If you don't mind, what is your process for culling your herd or what things do you look for when culling? How often do you do it?Bluegrass 272432 | Forest 54250 | Mesa 9056

I actually only started culling my show herd recently, because it would've skewed the data.
Now I use a tattoo to mark horses to keep regardless of points, and I only count those horses.
So there are lots of players with way better systems than I have!
