I'm no guru, but both of the roans are only Het Roan and each are only Het E, so he happened to inherit e from both and no roan. No E means no black and no R means no roan.

Each parent is only heterozygous (one copy) for E, so the foal inherited the e allele from each which produces no black pigment.

I have a stud who gives me a Liver foal every.single.year ; he is actually the reason i started my liver line lol

Also, I remember the story of one guy who had a herd of stallions and mares running in a field and constantly breeding. When it was time to register the horses, he thought that all the black foals were by the black stallion, all the chestnut foals were by the chestnut stallion, all the bay foals were by the bay stallion, etc. As you can imagine that didn’t end well for him =))

Just because two horses are the same color doesn’t always mean that their foals will be the same color :)
