Breeding with Boosts
-
Quick question: so I know you want to breed B to B horses, A to A horses, etc to have the highest chance of getting intact foals. But what about when it comes to boosted horses? I don't boost my horses, but I often purchase straws from boosted studs. What paper of unboosted mare should I breed them to to have the highest likelihood of an intact foal?
I've found this especially tricky with "A" foundation studs, as I don't have any A mares. Any advice?ID is 267069 / she/they/he

I would breed them to Red foundation mares. You will have to use a lot of straws to get a foal to pass SBA/BA but you can get a Blue/A papered sup foal if you take your time. They probably won’t test as well as a foal out of A/Blue foundation parent but they can test aga A/Blue foals out of B/Red parents.Thanked by 1stardustgirl

Depending on your goals I find using a boosted "A" stallion to high red papered mares creates intact supirior fillies . The colts on the other hand just about always get snipped.Thanked by 1stardustgirl

Follow-up question--what about a C stud boosted to a B? Would I be best using his straws on a C mare?ID is 267069 / she/they/he

Depends, 1% or 5% boosted?
1% boosted, I'd stick with Yellow mares.
5% boosted, he's now an ExPro and I'd use with Red mares.Bluegrass #143376 * Specializing in Iced Axiom (ExPro Cobs) and Iced Phantoms (PF Riding Ponies)

To get more equally intact foals I would do c to c unless your specifically trying to boost the quality of a colt or filly.
Like for instance I pair red foundi mares to A papered studs and only use the fillys I get. Doing this I get alot of supirior fillies. So my 2nd gen mares in pasture are mostly blue papered. Now for colts I select a couple foundation mares and boost them to blue and pair them to an equally papered stud "A" I tend to get both good fillies and colts. I take the colts that are supirior and put them into pasture with the blue mares. Since these mares are slightly less quality compared to sire the resulting fillies end up mostly supirior compared to the 2nd gen mare. Then breed that top stud to a mare that had both boosted parents for supirior colt. But that's what I do. I would think if it were reversed you would get better colts than fillies and most of those fillies would end up spayed.
This is an uneven paper breeding but is even lined. I e found it had worked for me but everyone breeds differently. I would try what you think is best for your goals :) hope this helps. -
Two horses of the same ability will give you the greatest number of intact foals, if you are chasing intact numbers.Need to contact me? Read this first.
