Hunt & Jump Talented Tutors Competition!

Everyone learns differently. The more ways something can be explained, the better!
In your own words, explain how something on the game works. It could be a process (How to buy a pasture, how to sign up for the newsletter, how does the Welcome Pack work, etc.) or a purchasable item (what is a GMT, what is a Boost, why do barns cost what they do, etc.), or just a basic tenant of the game (how show points determine your show bonus, How pastures work, etc.) or a how a gene works (recessives like flaxen, what is needed for snowflake, how to buy a fantasy gene, etc.) or anything else you think a new player might need to know.
New players (people who have joined the game in the past 6 months starting 10-10-21), we will need your help in picking a winner! You are encouraged to play/join, especially since you have more recent experience with the ‘learning curve’, or you can win prizes for clicking the Thanks link/button on tutorials you find particularly helpful. All the names of new players who click Thanks will be tossed in a hat and 3 random names will be drawn for new player winners. Don’t just randomly click everything, though, more than 3 or 4 Thanks will not be counted!PLEASE NOTE: the Thanks option is not available on the mobile version of the game, so use the desktop version if you can, and if there is still a problem, let me know and we’ll get it handled.
You may use a previous post IF YOU ARE THE AUTHOR OF THE EXPLANATION, and the original thread is less than a year old. For example, if Ammit started a thread on how to create an embryo, and you posted an additional comment about how to pull straws before you can create the embryo, then you can use that comment/post (about pulling straws) for your entry, but not the whole post about creating the embryo.
Keep in mind that the tack feature/colors is in the process of being updated, so that is probably not the best choice to explain.ENTER
To enter, reply on this thread. Try to keep entries as concise and as short as possible (I know…that’s going to be the hard part…but please try!)
Put your Stable ID# at the top of your comment, give your lesson a title, then enter your explanation.
Example:

How to Make Money using Bootstrapping
If you enter the Tutorial part of the game, you may not enter the new player part of the game. One or the other, but not both.
Decent punctuation, grammar, capitalization, etc. , WILL be a part of the deciding factor! Again, it doesn’t have to be perfect but do, please, try your best!
Remember, this is to help new players so limit the abbreviations and “Haj-speak”!
The game will run until rollover on Friday 10-31-21. Prizes will be awarded 11-2-21.PRIZES
>1st place prize for Tutorial– a 60 acre pasture, and one 5% boost tokens and 500,000 HBs
>2nd place prize for Tutorial – a 30 acre pasture, and three 1% boost tokens and 300,000 HBs
>3rd place prize for Tutorial – a 10 acre pasture, and one 1% boost token and 100,000 HBs
>Random new player drawing prize – Your choice of either 750,000 HBs, a 60 stall barn, or a 30 day basic upgrade

How the 5 axiom alleles function.
The axiom gene has 5 alleles or options six if you count null (-). All created horses are null/null. You may buy or breed a horse with nexus (x). When heterozygous (x/-) it will add pretty white 'stars' when hom x/x it will fully express and the color will be listed as 'Error: Unknown anomaly'.
Now if you have bought the warp (w) license you may mix this with nexus (x/w) or any of the other axioms (w/r, w/g or w/b) and both genes will fully express. You may also make a straight warp horse (w/w) but this is rarely done.
If you have bought licences for axiom red (r), axiom green (g) or axiom blue (b) they will function the same as nexus with 'stars' when het (r/-, b/- or g/-) and fully expressed when hom (r/r, g/g or b/b) or when mixed with warp as described above. They will NOT express if mixed with nexus (x/r, x/b or x/g).
However the 3 colored axiom genes are 'semi-dominant' meaning that mixing them will result in a blending of the two alleles to create a third phenotype (expression). These are r/b (purple axiom), r/g (yellow axiom) and b/g (cyan axiom).
There are many variations of expression with no real rules as to why, so play around with different matches and image rerolls. Just remember to NOT mix nexus (x) with any allele except warp (w).Licensed for:

How To Purchase Upgrades, Rare Genes, GMTs And IVs!
By crazysnakelady #ID 273464
This is a good how to for new players. How do I purchase rare genes, GMTs IVs or upgrades? Well first, scroll down whatever page you are on and you will see a barn logo next to Upgrades. There is an option for buy upgrades, buy rare genes or voucher exchange.
1. Buying upgrades
This one is pretty simple, you can buy barns, pastures etc. for real money (USD). You can also buy barns with IVs so that leads to the next one!
2. Buying IVs, Shopping with IVs and Buying GMTs
The buying IVs is right infront of your face when you open the page. You can buy IVs with haji bucks. If you go on IV shopping, you can buy tack packs, 1 year basic upgrade, GMTs and boosts.
3. Buying Rare Genes
This one is pretty straight forward but go on buy rare genes, and you can buy linceses for rare genes and modifys a certain horse with real money. Every breeding season is different, Different genes come and go, some stay, and some go on sale. This season 113 (Oct 2021) All phantom genes are on sale!

How to use straws& to collect straws! By GildedFire ID 246052
New players! Just got your first basic upgrade? Want to know how to use straws? Look no further! I am here to help. In order to use straws you must have a basic upgrade.
Go to the “Advanced Facilities” tab, then click “Advanced Breeding Lab” after clicking that you get a whole bunch of options.
One option which is for basic members and premium is you get to collect straws from your stallions and it lists each and everyone now if your someone like me ( I have over 170studs). The mass straw pull is for premium members only which is this next part. There is a handy dandy scroll list right above the listed studs and you can choose how many you want to pull by putting in the number instead of just pulling one at a time (each straw is 500hb to pull).
Now to use them you click the “Use A Straw” option right next to “Collect Straws” it will pull up the “Pick A Mare” option and “Pick Your Stallion” which will reveal if and any straws you have stored available for use. And the mare option is for any inbred mare you own. And then from that menu you also get to name the foal ( I use # as it auto puts the name as the horses ID number as the name).
I hope I explained using straws well.Post edited by GildedFire at 2021-10-11 11:45:37Licensed for Mushroom,Onyx, Watercolor, Ice 13, ice 16, Phantom lace, Phantom Diamond sparkle.Thanked by 1annismyrph -

What Do Genotype and Phenotype Mean
Genotype is a pretty fancy-sounding word, but, in short, means the color name for a horse. Not the color that the horse looks like, (that would be Phenotype) but the color that the horse is based on the genes. So if you look at a horse and go to its Control Panel, you can click "Genetic Testing" and it will have a pop-up like: "The lab has discovered your horse is a Grullo Splash." Now, the horse may look like a sandy-colored horse, and that would be its Phenotype, based on the color it looks like. But its Genotype is actually Grullo Splash (or whatever it is on your horse).
Hopefully, this helped explain what Genotype and Phenotype are!
I know I actually learned while teaching this!Post edited by MiaMoo at 2021-11-01 08:57:09Licensed for: Phantom Lace, Phantom Hearts, Phantom Skulls, Phantom DMSP, Apple Picking, Bouqet, Roses, Shamrock, Phantom Wisps, Chinchilla, ONYX, Splash M, Height Regulator, PBC, PBW, Watercolor, Axiom Green, Axiom Blue, Toner, and MushroomThanked by 1SabreBaby -

How do Phantom Genes Work?
Phantom genes are fantasy genes in the game (meaning they do not exist in real life genetics). All phantom genes only require one copy to show (heterozygous). However, most phantom genes will show best on white markings (excluding appaloosa), white markings such as KIT genes such as w, w1, w2,, w3, M, w8, w10, w20, Sabino 1 & 2, tobiano, and roan, as well as non-KIT white markings like Splash and Frame. Some phantom genes such as Web and Lace (and occasionally others) will show on solid colors of your horses as well!
Each phantom gene requires a separate license to breed and buy. You are not able to get phantom genes through the gene modification lab at this time but they are offered occasionally in the Roving Gene Sales for $5.
Hope this helps explain Phantom genes more!Licenses: Watercolor, Nacre, Splash M, Wrong Warp, Phantom Autumn/Lace/Diamond Sparkle/Web/Hearts/Shamrock/Muddy Puddles/Roses/Critter Tracks/Jellyfish/Birdtracks, Paintbrush Cool, Paintbrush Prism, Plaid, Shatterglass, Inkspot, Toner, Mushroom, DFP2, Onyx, Platinum, Ice 6, Ice 17Thanked by 1OrionsStables -

Explanation of IVs, Exchanging HBs for IVs & a Brief talk of GMTs
HBs= Horsebucks the in game currency
IVs= Investment Vouchers used for purchasing Tack Packs, Boosts, Barns, GMTs and a 30 day basic upgrade.
GMTs= Genetic Modification Tokens
HBs can be exchanged for IVs under the “Upgrade” tab on the left of your screen. And then by clicking on the first option “Voucher Exchange”
Once you have clicked on that, it will open a page called “Investment Voucher Manager”. Here you can exchange 12,500hbs for 1 IV; be careful and calculate your exchange before you submit it, if you’re not careful, you’ll end up exchanging all your HBs for IVs and not have much left (personal experience!) that number in bold is the max amount you are able to exchange for.
If you are looking to purchase, through IVs, a GMT, it will cost 10 IVs, 10 IVs costs you 125,000hbs. Keep this in mind as that helps set up the equation used to calculate how many IVs you want when on the exchange page to avoid going to that max amount.
Amount of IVs wanted/needed x 12,500 = the amount of HBs you spend.
For GMTs it would be:
Amount of GMTs needed x 10 = amount of IVs. Then amount of IVs needed x 12,500 = amount of HBs needed.
So if you need 20 GMTs it would be
20x10=200 then 200x12,500= 2,500,000HBs (yes this is attainable with the right show heard!)
And if you just need 20 IVs then it would be:

The Dun Locus!
In HAJ, there are a lot of different genes to play with! A favorite of many is the Dun locus (the part of DNA sequencing where a specific gene is located).
Dun is one of the original genes. (The earliest horses were all bay duns, everything else is a mutation that evolved from that original recipe!) Dun is characterized by primitive markings, typically leg barring (think tiger stripes across the legs, usually above the knee and hock), ear bars, and a dorsal stripe that runs all the way into the tail, and can also cause coat pigment dilution. Dun is a fun gene to play with on HAJ because there are some limited genes you can purchase with real money, like the Dun Factor Promoter genes. These are genes that, in-game, can add more prominent primitive markings, but require Dun to show.
Nd1, or non-dun 1, is a gene that creates some mild primitive markings and mild coat dilution, but the dorsal stripe won't run all the way into the tail.
Nd2, or non-dun 2, is what any horse without Dun or Nd1 have, and phenotypically there will be no primitive markings or coat dilution. Most horses you see in everyday life have two copies of nd2.
Onyx is a fantasy gene exclusive to HAJ that can be purchased with real money and causes an exaggerated dilution with some metallic sheen.Formerly OscarWildin

All About the Showing System
The best way of making money in Hunt and Jump is to train and show your horses. They can be trained once each week and shown twice each week. A horse’s PT score determines how many points will be added with each training and how long it will continue to add points to its show score. The higher the PT score, the more points are added with each training and the more quickly a horse will work its way up the Level/Grade ladder. A Perfect Foundation has a PT score of 9.9. It will add three points to its score each time it trains and will level off (stop adding more points to its score) when it turns 10. The consistency of a horse determines how widely its score can vary. Consistent horse will probably not have more than 2 or 3 points difference in its show scores until it levels up into the next Level/Grade. Starting in Level 2, the point spread for each Level/Grade is 10 points, until the horse reaches Level 6. At that time, the size of the point spread for each Level Grade begins to increase.
The shows are divided into 8 Levels which represent an increasing difficult jump course for each level.
Level 1 classes have the horses shown in hand—on a lead line, not ridden.
Level 2 classes (Green Under Saddle) have the horses being ridden around a course with no jumps.
Level 3 classes (Green Over Fences) have the horses ridden over lower jumps in simple patterns.
Level 4 classes (Training) have the horses competing over higher or fairly difficult jumps in more elaborate patterns.
Level 5 C classes have higher and more difficult jumps and more complex patterns.
Level 6 B classes are increasingly difficult to navigate.
Level 7 A classes are yet more difficult.
Level 8 Grand Prix classes are the most challenging.
Within each Level there are 4 grades that represent the areas from which horses can be entered into the show.
Local shows attract horses from a fairly small area, rather like 4-H horses from a single county in a state in the US.
Regional shows attract the best horses from a larger area. For 4-H competitions, that would be the best horses from across the entire state.
National shows draw competitors from a whole country.
World shows draw the best horses from many countries.
This horse, a 14 year old gelding with a PT of 14.9 is showing in Grand Prix World. He has not yet leveled off and is showing at the top of his classes.
ZO 11648291
This 10 year old mare has a PT score of 9.9, is consistent, and has leveled off, showing at Level 7 Regional, near the bottom of the class.

To Breed or Not to Breed? (What a silly question!)
Let's be honest - we ALL come here to breed out some awesome pixel ponies! The learning curve is steep for breeding, though, and we all have different goals with our herds. But just like in real life, looks aren't everything. So how exactly do you create a good quality foal? Here are a couple of tips to take the mystery out of choosing breeding stock.
This one is the most important ---> 1. Pick a mare and a stallion of equal quality. This is where paper level comes into play. Not only do you stand a better chance of producing a foal that passes muster if you breed equally, but you can see whether or not you are making forward progress in your herd. Stallions are Star, A, B, and C. Mares are Gold, Blue, Red, and Yellow (highest to lowest) This means you want to breed Star to Gold, A to Blue, B to Red, C to Yellow. Horses of equal paper level are more likely to produce offspring that will pass testing.
2. Test your horses! Most people will not breed to or buy a horse that isn't 'Breeding Advice' tested, I know, I know - what if your stunning, once in a lifetime colt gets gelded with breeding advice? Well, that just saved you a ton of future heartbreak because Mr. HandsomePants might look like a million bucks, but he is going to be an utter disappointment in the breeding shed. Give 'im the old snip snip and move on to greener pastures with a stud better suited to breed! Trust me, we've all struggled with it, but in the long run, just like if you picked a car that looked great but couldn't get you ten feet down the road, don't limit yourself with a stallion or mare that won't improve the future of your breeding program.
3. The bad news is, your foal is probably only worth what you can get for it at auction. The good news is, you can probably find some real gems to pick up in the auction house or on the sales board to add to your breeding program. You don't make money from breeding, you make money from show ponies. The only way to create a self-sustaining barn is to horde those high-point spays and geldings, and they can finance your breeding operation!
Okay, I lied - this is the most important one ---> 4. Breed what makes you happy! We love H & J because the experience is personalized for each and every one of us! The advice above is only one of MANY ways to play the game. If you ask ten people what they look for, you'll likely get ten different responses. There is no wrong way to play- just have fun!Post edited by High Five Acres at 2021-10-17 02:03:58Specializing high quality dark horses with lots of chrome.

An Explanation Of What GP, KP, And SF Are!
Have you been wondering what these genes are or how to breed for them? Well look no farther, I'm here to hopefully help in your understanding of these complex genes!
First off all of them are Recessive, meaning they need 2 copies of that gene to show. Homozygous (hom=2 copies) not Heterozygous (het=1 copy).
*Snowflake- or Snowflake Varnish (abbreviation SF) is a form of Appaloosa varnish that is progressive and usually turns a horse completely white with time. For a horse to show Snowflake it would need to be Homozygous Snowflake and have at least one Appaloosa/Leopard Complex gene (Lp). It shows as little white flakes or spots sprinkled across a horse's coat, which really look like little snowflakes!
Examples (before they turn white):
Het Lp
UH Trapped in Bronze
Hom Lp
G4 HomSnf 116 Elissan Blk
Those are just basic examples since Appaloosa blankets can vary depending on the presence of other genes such as PATN1 as well. A good way to breed for Snowflake is to have a stallion who is Lp/Lp Snow/Snow to cross with mares who are either Lp/ Snow/Snow or ones that are Hom snow but no Lp (they won't show it but are carriers). By doing that they will always produce a Snowflake Appaloosa foal.
*Gulastra Plume- abbreviation is GP, this gene requires the presence of an extension gene (E) and an active A/Bay gene (at least one A to be active, not aa) as well as being Homozygous Gulastra Plume. In other words it only shows on Bay coats & there varients. This gene causes a loss of or reduced pigment in the tail, resulting in a horse with a kind of white dipped tail (it can some times affect the mane too).
Examples here:
EE Aa
Attract
EE A+
IM Past Indulgence
EE tA
3 Subtle Pirate
The degree to which GP shows depends and it seems to show up better on darker horses, Dense Pheomelanin (DP) is a big help in this:
V6 GP Pure Supremacy
This one is a little tricker to breed for than the rest because you always need a Bay coat. My advice would be to have a EE AA gp/gp stallion and Bay mares who are at least Heterozygous gp and go from there.
*Kit Promoter- abbreviation is KP. This one is unlike the other two as it is NOT a real life gene, only in game can you find it. But it's still a fun gene to have and breed even though it's purely fictional! As it's name says, a horse needs to have 2 Kit gene mutations (white spotting genes like Tobiano or Roan) and 2 copies of Kit Promoter to show. KP shows up as a roany or cloudy patch on a horse's coat (patch expression is random & may be changed with a re-roll or two). The only odd ball in this is KP2, which seems to show Heterozygous or Homozygous with it's self. KP2 also makes the edge's of Kit markings very fuzzy!
Examples here:
KP/KP
JS3 Faded Roany KP
V2 KP Cant Find The Cat
KP/KP2
9917838
BBZ2 CloudQueen
Heterozygous KP2
QHS2 Kp2 dp kitm 9835378
It really depends on what kind of Kit gene(s) a horse has but there is such a wide range of expression with KP & KP2, which is what makes it so fun to breed! There's not much you need for this one other then some Homozygous Kit mares (some mares that are carriers of KP would also help of course) and a Homozygous Kit Promoter stallion. Remember that KP2 will show Heterozygous as well, so a KP/KP2 stud could be good for a mix!

Differentiating the Many White Markings and Breeding Them Safely
People on Hunt and Jump love to breed their own custom herd. Part of what makes horses here unique is the amount and kind of white markings, and many horses have them, if only a small coronet over the hoof. There are several kinds of white genes, and to a limited extent they can be mixed.
If you are new to the game, here are some explanations to help you figure out what you want to breed for. To keep the post short(ish), I have included mostly links and only one picture.
First, KIT genes have a lot of influence on white patches.
Tobiano gives a horse white patches with crisp edges. These patches cross the midline and have an influence on mane color.
Frame gives a horse a white patch or patches with fuzzy borders around it. These white patches do not cross the midline.
Sabino is a far more subtle effect, lending a white ticking to the belly and legs. Rabicano is similar but affects the base of the tail and flanks.
Roan is similar to sabino, but the mixing of white and colored hairs occurs over a much larger area, sometimes the whole body.
The various W genes provide different kinds of white addition to coats. W2 and W20 are common in the game, but other kinds do occur. How they affect the overall look depends on if they are homozygous or heterozygous and what other genes are present. Here are links to searches for the various white genes:
W1 often gives the legs a white color with the white fading into body color about halfway up.
W2 sometimes puts wispy patches of color all over the horse.
W3 puts wispy patches of white on a horse.
W8 looks like the horse had white spots spray-painted on.
W10 is similar to W1, except the dividing line between white and color is not as level as it often is in W1.
W20 does not seem to have a pronounced effect on its own, perhaps only a stocking, but, per UC Davis, can have an effect on how other white genes are expressed.
The M gene has a similar effect to the tobiano gene, but the patches are a little smaller with irregular edges.
Appaloosa gives horses a blanket of dots, the size of which is controlled by the PATN1 gene.
Splash gives a horse bottom-up white splotches, as if it put its head down and walked through white paint. Two copies will exaggerate the effect.
If you have a bay horse, gulastra plume will put a streak of white in the horse's tail.
These genes can be stacked, and the more kinds the genome has, the more white your horse will be. For example, this horse has tobiano, W2, splash, appaloosa, and frame:
Fractal
Pecuarius (Breeder) caveat! Beware when mixing different kinds of white because certain combinations are lethal. Barring the Freaky Friday Herd Helper, homozygous frame is always lethal, so don't breed frame with frame. Other white combinations can also have this effect, notably homozygous W and W10, so check this chart in the user guide before mating. It is a good idea to have some solid-colored horses in your broodstock to decrease the chance of a foal not surviving.Post edited by Treble at 2021-10-18 15:14:07Game number 273531

@confluencestables Sorry to bother you but I was wondering after the earlier convo if 'you can only enter either vote or tutorial not both' meant you could only participate in one or if you could still vote just not be entered in the prize drawing.Licensed for:
All Axiom
Ice: 9, 13, 15-19
RR: wt, PBC, PBW, Nac
PHAN: dmsp, lace, sku, hrt, shm, jelly, pmk, bird, crit sun star.

Hi boredaf - in the instructions it says: "If you enter the Tutorial part of the game, you may not enter the new player part of the game. One or the other, but not both." Hope that helps. :)ID: 273497

Wait... Not contesting anything, just really confused. What happened to my entry on funding things as a new account? I spent several hours on it and felt very proud... Did I do something wrong and have mods delete it? I was hoping it could be helpful to people.
-
It should have been between the last call and contest closed posts
-
I'm sorry, I didn't see one like that. Nothing got deleted.
