In pasture, when will mares foal
  • FAQs say that if mares are left in the pasture for 14 days with a stallion, they will spontaneously produce foals, correct? But I've seen mention of people leaving their mares in for a full 30 days... is it just a matter of when you add a stallion to the mix?
  • Yes you are correct!
You always need a stallion in the pasture to produce foals.
Before the 14th day of the month, if you put in a stallion in your pasture you have to manually click the "breed this pasture" button to breed that stallion to the mares in that pasture.

On or after the 14th day of the month, if you put in a stallion in a pasture, it will automatically breed after a few minutes or so. You do not have to manually press the "breed this pasture" button.
However, if your pasture had 1 auto-breed session, it will not automatically breed again. You have to manually press the button again. So for example if you decide to switch some bred mares for new unbred mares in that pasture that got bred automatically, you will have to manually press the "breed this pasture" button again.

As long as there is no stallion in the pasture, the pasture will not breed. I often only put in my stallions somewhere after the 20th of the month, as in the beginning of the month I'm always sorting out foals from the previous breeding season.

But be careful not to forget to take out the stallion you used. If you leave the stallion in the pasture for the next breeding season along with the mares, then on the 14th they will automatically breed again.
However, it is smart to leave the mares in so that they get or keep their full 30days pasture bonus to get the best foals possible.

Hope this helped explain it a bit, let me know if you have any questions!

  • And don't forget to remove your keeper foals! They will automatically be removed/deleted come the monthly rollover!
