Paper levels
  • Will an unevenly bred foal usually fail breeding advice? I'm thinking A to Red, or Star to Blue.

With even breeding, i'm assuming there is some percentage to which foals get which paper level?

    Say for example:

    B bred to Red
    10% - A/Blue
    70% - B/Red
    20% - C/Yellow

Is that a correct assumption? This is without taking boots into account.
  • I don't know a percentage of passing SBA or precent of superior offspring. My 2nd gen pastures are all A-papered studs to both blue and red mares. A significant amount are passing SBA, but I also cull heavily for superior foals and color.

Same goes with my 4th gens, studs are all Star papered and mares are a mix of Blue and Golds. They are also in pastures though for that breeding bonus.

  • How much of a bonus do mares receive
And is it a little percentage every day
With the full bonus when in 30 days?

  • it isnt the mares that recieve the bonus ; its the foals ; and they get a "bump" when the mare is in 15days and then 30 i believe

  • Actually it is the mares that receive the boost I believe, which means they have a better chance to throw a higher quality foal, doesn't mean they necessarily will though.
As for the original question, a high blue can be nearly as a good as a low star, so not too hard to get a foal from them to pass, but the further apart they are in breeding ability, the less likely to get a foal to pass

  • Even breeding and paper level breeding are actually two different things. Even breeding is foundation x foundation, 2G x 2G, 3G x 3G, etc. :)
I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!
  • At the foundation level, I've had success with B/Yellow crosses and C/Red crosses. B/Yellow crosses usually give me superior fillies and C/Red crosses usually give me superior colts, but I've gotten A/Blues here and there from those 2 types of crosses.
  • Thanks for all the comments. I thought "even breeding" referred to horses of the same paper level. What is inherently desirable about breeding same generations?
  • The aim of selective breeding is to produce animals that are better than their parents. A 2G breeding quality horse is often better than its parents. Breeding that 2G horse to a foundation horse for example pulls that quality down since the foundation horse is not as good quality. There are not many unevenly bred horses that will pass Breeding Advice, and even fewer of those would be able to pass Strict Breeding Advice.

  • Even breeding (same generation) allows me to produce a better quality foal everytime - both for my show ring and my brreeding pastures. There is some predictability in quality when I breed.

Those full even pedigrees with pretty pictures make me happy too.

And its even more fun seeing horses I've bred go all they way back to foundation in the pedigrees. I'm up to 7 Generations of my lines, its hard to get there.
