How Do You Choose?
  • Hi All!

I am having the typical issue that new players have, I am sure. How do you ever determine what horses to let go? I regularly put ones I just do not like into the auction or for sale but there are plenty...plenty that probably could go but I am attached.

So, what point parameters or other parameters do you use to cull?

I want to build up Hb and points. I want to work on a pearl line soon and maybe one other that is yet to be determined.

  • geld everything you dont want to breed for and keep them as show ponies

  • After I geld everything that I know I don't want to breed and put them in a show barn I look at Paper level, then color, then PT score and I try to only keep one stallion per generation per breeding season so I don't end up with too many stallions. For mares I keep everything that meets my paper level and color requirements as long as I have room for them. Everything else gets gelded/spayed and put in a show barn. I only sell or send to Auction if something has a rarer gene combination, is a RS, or is over 10yo. Building a solid show herd is the best way to build HBs.
I love Warmbloods with lots of Sooty and DP. Dark Mahogany Bays, Liver Chestnuts, and Blacks make me super happy. I love horses with color, dfp1, nd1, gray, GP, and KP on the dark base. One day I would like to have a herd of high pt, well papered dark beauties. ID# 257941

  • I was going to ask this very question, as my pastures will autobreed soon. Thanks for asking @Orionsstables and for the answers.
@orionsstables I don't know what your means are, but other players have advised me to make a bunch of random horses, four-year-old mares and one three-year old stallion, dump them in a pasture, breed, and auction all three groups away. There was a recent post where someone broke down the numbers and showed that you can buy yourself a barn in a few weeks.
If you are still able to do pointed creates, keep the higher-pointed ones. I was a dummy and sold some of mine, admittedly to get a crack at making a 300+ pt horse.
