Help with Stallions (Breeding/Gelding/Selling/Auction)
-
Hi I am new and starting out, and I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me go through my stallions to decide what to keep vs what to geld/sell/auction? I also just finished a big breed using my mares and gelded quite a few colts (can be found in show barn 2).

Exceptional Show Horses (Foundation) -
If you can ; start with Exception horses ( Red and B papered foundation stock ) ; I geld everything 2g male that papers B , if their PT is higher than 10 i keep them for my show string ; if not I auction them ( if you have room keep them and let them earn points for you til they turn 10 , if not auction them ) I olny keep A papered boys that test SUP to sire ; otherwise they are gelded and tossed in the show barn ( or again if no room auctioned )
hope that helps a little :)Thanked by 1RainwalkerStable -
I was looking at the definitions and now I have soooo many questions. I am sorry in advance haha!
Perfect Foundation = Highest possible PT test & best possible breeding ability
Exceptional Producer = Breeding Score 5% better than perfect foundation
Exceptionally Perfect = PT & Breeding Score 5% better than perfect foundation
1. When creating these, is it better to go for the exceptionally perfect over the exceptional producer when trying to breed better show stock?
2. Do you normally create them as stallions/mares/etc? or is it just personal preference?
3. When breeding, can these be carried over into the G2s?
4. What do you look for first in deciding what to keep/auction/etc. for show stock? Is it the paper level, PT, Consistency, Total Points, or Current Lifetime Payout? Do you have a rank preference? I am trying to build myself a little template guide/flow chart that I can look at for breeding/selling/showing.
Foundation Stallion Keep = Paper B+
Foundation Gelding Show = Paper C+
Foundation Sell/Auction = Paper below C / low lifetime payout
G2 Stallion Breed = Paper A+
G2 Gelding Show = Paper B | PT above 10
G2 Stallion/Gelding Auction = Paper C | PT below 10

Well there isn't really one correct way to do it, strategies partly depend upon your goals and what you find to be fun.
1. I generally think that exceptionally perfect horses do the best as show horses since they have a high PT score (10.4) and tend to level off in a good place. Perfect foundations aren't bad either as they have a 9.9 PT score. The other types of foundations can have a PT score that really varies and they might level off their training in a good show class (generally placing in the top 3 of a World level show rakes in a lot of hbs and points) but might not.
2. If you're planning to immediately geld/spay the foundation create, it doesn't really matter mare or stallion. If you want to use them for showing and breeding, I'd say create more mares and maybe look into buying a high quality stallion from another player (i.e. A or Star papered to do uneven breeding or bootstrapping with).
3. When breeding, you're generally looking for offspring that will improve upon the parents. If you're starting with exceptional foundations, they'll be starting from B/Red papers and can move faster into the A/Blue range and beyond. As I mentioned above, some players will take a lined stallion with high papers and breed him to foundation mares, keep the fillies that are better than their dams and then repeat with the same stallion. It's a pretty fast way to get foals from Red to Gold and you generally get to see higher PT scores in the 12s and 13s that way.
4. As a new player, I would look first at how many points the horse has when you created it. If it's above 300, it's probably worth keeping. If it's below, might be worth selling to other members for a profit since older players are usually always happy to buy foundations with points. Next, if you're wanting to breed a solid herd of show horses, I'd keep the exceptionally perfect/producing mares since they'll get you the best offspring fastest. When a horse reaches around 10 years old, then you can look at what show class it is generally participating in and whether it is raking in good earnings or not. If not, that would be the time to auction.
Hopefully that helps a bit, good luck!ID #265959 | He/him | Breeding Black Satin, Liver, and Grullo Arcturus Horses | Licenses: Mushroom, DFP2, Onyx, Axiom Blue and Green
