What are the sno and sun genes?
  • I've only recently paid attention to the color options in the search (yes, I feel silly).

I'm pretty well versed in color genetics (hence the interest in the game), but there are a few genes i'm having trouble figuring out that don't seem to be in the genetics guide.

Sno and sun on the cream gene?

When does the game put modifiers in the color like "chocolate palomino" or "liver chestnut"? The ones i've seen this on seem to get hom sooty with at least one copy of DP. Are there other combinations of genes that get these written color modifications?
  • Snowdrop and Sunshine - similar to pearl,

To get Chocolate palos or Livers, the horse must have 3 darkening modifiers so 2 sooty or S+and a DP or 2 DP and a Sooty or S+.

Not to be confused with the Chocolate gene, that also will add Chocolate to the name, but affects a black pigment. Thisis a fantasy gene noted with the "b" in the genetic test.

  • Snowdrop and sunshine were only recently discovered (2019, I think) :)
I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!
  • That makes sense.

To follow up: what is S+? "Extra" sooty?
  • No, it’s a form of sooty that causes dappling.

Sorry for the W10 in the way, but if you look closely, you can see a dappling pattern that you won’t see in horses without S+.

  • I feel quite silly now. I didn't realize that snowdrop and sunshine were new real genes. Clearly i'm not that up to date!
  • OOOOoooohhhh! I've seen some dappled horses but didn't know that's what it was. LOVE IT!

  • Appreciate the help guys! Another question for you. In the case of this mare, is the appearance of pearl being "dampened" by the sooty and DP?

  • I’m still learning about pearl, but I’m pretty sure it only shows in its homozygous form because cream is dominant over it.

Edit: Yep, all the pearl horses in her sire line are homozygous pearl, so I’m pretty sure it’s recessive and needs two copies to show.

  • Heterozygous Pearl does not show, only in homozygous form or combined wth Cream, Snowdrop or Sunshine.
