Uh, if a horse is genetically black, then it is black.
Bays and buckskins always have black points. It’s part of the agouti mutation.
And every black horse is subject to sun fading.I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me! -
Some blacks are drastically more prone to fading than others.
They are not suggesting bays are buckskins are this mutation, they are saying that isn't what they mean and those horses should be excluded from the definition of light black.
Not all genetically black horses are visually black which is what they mean. Subtle dilutions like mushroom do exist and are often debated for ages before being confirmed via testing.
This page is an attempt to define a possible suggested dilution. I don't know if I buy light black being a thing but it is also not something that can be ignored out of hand and there have hints that it might be real going back for ages. Again if mushroom has proven anything to us it is that slight dilutions are a thing.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I have a question that is sort of related to the topic. I have a horse tested as black but has a pearl gene. It is noticeably lighter than horses without any dilution but is not listed as being a smokey black, although both pearl and cream dilute pigments. Why is that?Game number 273531

Are you asking about in-game or in real life?
