Guide For Selling
  • Could someone help me find the link of the articles about how to price horses for breeding and selling? I have so many horses to sell and I am at a lose for what to price them at.
  • Selling is difficult because the market is always changing. Your best bet it to look up horses that are similar to yours and choose a comparable price. Key things to compare are age, GMT ability, Rank Special, points, papers, and colors.

If you want you could link a couple of horses and get some more tailored advice. :)
  • Thank you both!
  • Something I've been doing with some of the rare rank specials is searing existing horses with that tattoo (for example search all cherry drops), then narrow it down to below age 5 (this gives me ones that were only recently sold), and then look for ones that have been sold. You'll be looking for owner ID and breeder ID being different in this case. Find 7-10 that have sold, not including anything that sold for 3000 or less (I usually assume this was a SS deal or something), and get the average price. Add the prices of all the examples you got, divide by the number of examples you added, and the number you get is what you can post it for. Then if it doesn't sell after a couple of days, you can reduce the price by 500-1000 until it does sell.

It's a process but it's helped me price a little more confidently.

For lined horses or ones that don't have a searchable tattoo like a rank special does, maybe you could search by similar genes? Like if you have a horse that is hom lp, hom patn1, het silver you could search for horses that are at least het for all three? That might get you close. You could narrow it down as much as possible, really, using the horse search, but you might struggle more to find enough similar horses to average the prices of. I would not recommend less than 5.

    Did that make any sense?
  • My general rule is to never price a horse for more than what I would personally pay for that horse. I check with more experienced friends to make sure I’m not underpricing :)
I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!
  • I always sell foundation creates, no matter what rank it is, for 2500, if I sell on public. Otherwise I just drop them into auction and let the market determine the final bid price. If I'm doing it for special events like the exchanges, I do 1 hb because I can afford to do so.
