I've recently gotten obsessed with the "black" looking liver chestnuts (with flaxen) in the game. To get this color, do you just need 2 copies of DP and Sty, or is there something additional to aim for?

Four copies of darkening genes (two DP and two sooty) is all it takes. Though mushroom is never a bad addition to enhance the flaxen. :) Pangare can also add a nice lightened edge to them so they're obviously not plain black. If you want those dark dapples, you might have to reroll the portrait because I don't think there's any way to consistently breed for them.

I breed for Black Livers ; you ll find if you have p/p you ll get darker as well ; here is a link to mine to see the differences :)

Yep, that's the basics of it! Two sooty, two DP. however other genes might lighten the coat up too, like nd1 and sometimes other KIT genes like tobiano or splash can affect the mane and tail color making it look lighter.
