What are your personal breeding "rules"?
  • For example, in my draft line, I only want to see drafts in the pedigree, and I want to see matching generations bred to each other. Generally, all of my foundy mares are ex perfect or ex producers, unless a regular one was just a really cool color. I try hard for the foundation stallions to be ex perfect.

Right now i'm culling any second generation under 10.4/Red. I have some restrictions for higher generations, but I don't have many of those yet so i'm a little less strict.

It's silly that there are some colors I quite like, but i'm a bit stuck on requiring myself to only breed to drafts, despite the "gene pool" being somewhat restrictive. Maybe i'll just start a color line where I breed to any horse that fits the bill.

What arbitrary guidelines do you make for yourself in a game that has no right or wrong way to play?
  • I breed WBs, will always create them. Show ponies, if they’re worth it can be uneven, draft or light.. doesn’t matter. Since getting back into the game I want to focus on non fantasy genes, or genes I can give away without restriction. I still have fantasy in my freezer that I will look into, but not buy any more restricted genes. I love satin and dark and liver, and snowflake lol.
  • I used to breed Draft and Warmblood and Riding horses, but mostly Drafts. I took a bit of a break when I moved from Colorado to Kansas, and when I came back, got into just Riding horses. And now Collectables.

Now for my even line, all foundations have to be Exceptional Producers or Exceptionally Perfect (prefer these) And they tend to mostly be RS horses. So they are B/Red papered to start out with.

2Gens are A/Blue papered, sometimes I'll boost if the foal got all the genes I wanted but didn't paper the way I wanted it to. And they need to be Consistent, and test Superior to sire or dam. If they don't then they get snipped, all Inconsistent foals are snipped and sent to Auctions.

I keep all of the Best of Pasture foals. No matter what those ones stay, even if they get snipped.

3-4Gens can be A/Blue or Star/Gold, depends on how many of that generation I have for breeding stock. All the other requirements are the same though.

5-6Gens I prefer them to be Star/Gold papered, with all the requirements of 2Gs. But I'm just now getting to these gens with this breeding season getting me my first 7th gen.

All of this goes for my Collectables line as well.

And then there is my Bootstrap line, with Studs over 12PT, all sorts of Foundation mares, and then Gold mares from those pastures. Working on getting to 14PT with these guys but they produce most of my show herd, colts under 13PT get snipped, consistent ones get tossed into a show barn, inconsistent into auction, and mare papered under Gold get the same treatment. This has gotten me to almost 114k in daily showing bonus.

My numbers for breeding stock vs show stock are:

1,161 intact horses from yearling to 19 years old.

12 that are older then 19.

And 2,428 gelded or spayed horses. And this is without sorting through all of my yearlings and 2year olds yet this year.
Licensed for: All Axiom Genes, All Rainbow Riot 1 & 2 Genes, Splash M, Phantom except for Wisp, All Ice, Mushroom, Onyx, DFP2, Shatterglass, Chinchilla, Platinum and Height Regulator

  • I breed a little differently as I only breed for 2 colors, BlueRoanAppies and Liver ; I prefer Snowflake on my BlueRoans , and am aiming for 2 "sub lines" for my Livers ; Black Livers and High Chrome ; at some point I ll smash them together and go for HighChrome Black Livers;

I Try to start with Red/B ExPro or ExPerf Foundations , I keep any foal that tests "better a show horse than a breeder" and is auto snipped.

My 2 G Fillies must be Red or Blue, My 2g colts must be A and test Sup , they All Must fit into the color catagory, 2gs that dont are sent to auction ( So B colts or anything Not BlueRoan Appy or Liver )

3g must be Blue or A and must test SUP ( and again be the correct color ) those that aren't are snipped and auctioned ( again keeping the "autosnip Better a show horse )

4g Blue or A ; tho I am seeing more and more Gold and Star at this point ( same criteria above )

    5g Gold or Star.

I do 4 "culls" on my breeding stock
    1 ; pass BA
    2 ; pass genetically
    3 ; pass paper
    4 ; test SUP

    I currently have :
11,717 intact horses including Yearlings and 2 yo under the age of 19 (including 2791 unsorted incomplete testing )

363 over the age of 19 ( including showhorses and retired breeders)

    6659 Gelded or spayed ;

I show all my horses, including the future breeding stock every week

my Daily Payout is 389,739 ( and my goal here is 500k a day and I know if i spayed/gelded more i d get there quicker >< )

  • I breed for DP appaloosas with everything else a bonus. All lined breeding stock must have at least one copy of DP and Lp and be StySty.

Foundations must pass SBA, be papered and gene tested. They can have Lp or DP or both but they all must be StySty.

All lined breeding stock must pass SBA, be papered, gene tested and have an appropriate PT score for their generation, and must test superior to their parents.

I start with C/B stallions and Y/R mares.
2nd gen must be superior to their parents. The boys must be B/A and the girls must be R/B. Minimum PT score is 10, AFPT must be 10.5
3rd gen must be superior to their parents. The boys must be A and the girls must be Blue. Minimum PT score is 10.5, AFPT must be 11
4th gen must be superior to their parents. The boys must be A/Star and the girls must be Blue/Gold. Minimum PT score is 11, AFPT must be 11.5
5th gen must be superior to their parents. The boys must be Star and the girls must be Gold.
Minimum PT score is 12, AFPT must be 12.5

    You get the picture

I don't do boosted lines because I'm not rolling in money. So I just work with what the game provides from DHHs and such.

Sometimes I will boost a boy that got all what I wanted but didn't test superior to his sire. Other times, I just geld him and keep him as a show horse if he meets the min PT score for his generation. It depends on finances.

I show all my non pasture horses.

I keep all the SBA reject foals as show stock if they meet the minimum PT score for their generation. I also keep the personal cull foals if they meet that criteria as well. A lot of times I speld foals that pass SBA for the following reasons:

    1. Didn't have DP or LP or missed a special gene (that was before the lab update).
    2. Tested AGA
    3. Just didn't pass the eye test.
    4. Tested superior, but there was a half brother papering higher. (example a bunch of half brothers papering A at 4th gen, but one papers Star)
