Boosts dropping a horse down an era
-
When did this come in? It hasn't been a thing for like real years now! I understand why it's back in, but an announcement would have been nice before I used the boosts!
-
It's always been a thing, far as I know. Ever since eras was put into the game.ID 195859

I can't remember when it stopped, a while ago, back when clubs expanded, maybe a couple of real years ago? I get the reasoning behind it, but we've been able to add boosts for a long time now without era penalty so a heads up on the change would have been appreciated

It was in the bug reports for a good while. I fixed the bug. I have no idea how long it was broken because no one reported it was to me. I fixed it as soon as someone reported it.
If you need some assistance just ask. You know I go out of my way to help people.Post edited by Ammit at 2022-01-22 04:24:54Need to contact me? Read this first.

@Kintara, @Maribo ; Might be a silly question ; might not be ; If i understand "boosting" correctly it raises papers and PT scores ; which in turn might "raise" your standings on the leaderboards ; Are "ERA'S" that big a thing on the leaderboards? it seems like genotypes are more often bred for than a particular Era? Do some people in fact Only breed, for example, Era 5 or w/e era they started in? doesnt that in turn mean you really can't rebuild you foundation herd when needed?
TIA for any answers / explanations -
@annismyrph The main era gives out bigger GMT prizes than the other clubs :)ID 195859Thanked by 1annismyrph

It does seem to me that era isn't that big a deal to most players. For example, I've noticed players will mix eras without thinking twice about it. But for some reason for me, as soon as I read about eras in the game years ago, it was really important to me to focus on foundations of the newest era and not mix them, especially not to drop a rare gene line to an older era where that gene is quite common. Not sure why it felt important to me, it just did. (At the same time, I'm actually working on trying to not lose interest in my old line as soon as the era changes.) But I also noticed that boosts weren't dropping horses to a lower era, though I thought that was part of the perk of using them rather than creating an expro or exper foundation. I found it a little disappointing because when I calculated how much boosting costs, I realized I could never afford to do that for a whole pasture full of horses (I practically exclusively pasture breed with full pasture bonus, only use AI when I've been gifted straws) so I thought I would never be able to compete on the era leader boards because it seems like so many players boost. So I'm glad to learn that it was a bug and has been fixed.

I don't mix era's that much, I start new lines every new era so keep them mostly separate, and they have separate pastures, although I'll use a newer era stallion on older era mares to bring in some new bloodlines to the mare's era. Realistically most of mine have fantasty genes though so not in the era LB runnings anyway lol! So my stuff ups with the boosts won't be the end of the world, I'll just move them into the older eras, was just annoyed as I'd done the gmt work on them too and the era change was unexpected.
As for the for the era boosting penalty, I'm all for it, for exactly the reasons CLynnRose mentioned above, and gives a bit of a challenge to breeding in those early eras as well. I'd just gotten used to being able to boost here and there without the era penalty, as it's been like that for a fair while now
