Score not increasing, can't find archives of my horses.
  • One horse, his score has been the same for about 10 shows now, his daily payout is $98. Do you find that the score not changing means his hb will be worth keeping him? I'm afraid i don't really understanding which numbers where do you look at to see if a horse is earning his keep. Yes, several people told me how in the forum before, but I can't find the post.

Also, I wanted to see how many of my horses got archived but when I did a search none came up. i know I've got at least 4 or 5, but even they didn't show up on the search. I want to find how many of my horses died at rollover.
  • if you look on the top Dark Blue bar in your first page when you open the Forum ; there is a list ; look for My Discussions and you ll find every post you ever made

  • That horse I would keep and here's why.

His score is not improving because he is leveled off, meaning he reached his peak score. All horses eventually reach a peak score. He peaked in a point and money winning position. He is placing better than about half his class in a great level. The worlds (W) offer the most payout in each level. This horse will keep earning points to his total amount, plus will bring a daily bonus.

  • In contrast, here is another horse who has peaked that I would auction.

She has peaked in a poor level, 8L has lower winnings than the horse above. She is also placing lower in her class. I would auction this horse for payout. That allows me the space to keep a newly bred foal who will be earning points quickly in 1 months time.

Something to keep in mind is most horses will still be productive earners. I cannot afford to keep spending money to add multiple barns every year, so I cull the lowest producers. They might be making a little money, but I need room for foals. The lifetime payout in auction is a great feature and keeps me with a sustainable barn.

  • Could you tell me the steps 1 by 1 what you look at before you decide? like step one, you look at this, step two etc.
Because I can tell you are giving me valuable information, but don't know how you arrived at it.

I've bred a ton of ex perfect and ex shows (my cost of re-rolls for the HH are above somewhere I don't want to know lol). My plan is to have them ready for when the other horses age out or I want to get rid of. I have a fair number of uneven pedigrees I should cull. I'm neutering all I come across.

  • The horse shows he's competing in 7W, but that isn't on the list of entree fees. how do i know what his fees are?

    Ignore this, I got it.

  • Ok, I'm looking at this guy, and I think I've got it figured, straighten me out if I'm wrong

His entry fee is 50, and he shows twice a week, so cost is 100
His daily payout is 60, so his pay out for the week is 420
    420 - 60 shows a profit of 320.
The only thing is his scores are very low, do they matter as long as his daily payout adds up to more than his cost to enter?

Here's another one. Looking at his
    Cost to enter 40 x 2 = 80
    Daily pay out 10 x 7 = 70

To me this looks like a loss each week.
But his show scores are good, very good. what happens now?
  • You can see more if you go to the horse's records page. There you'll find a list of all the shows a horse has been entered in. You can click on the most recent show to see exactly where the horse placed and what the cash prize for that place was.

For the horse just above, she placed 6th in a class of 12 horses at level 8 Local. She added 3 points to her total points and earned a cash prize of 42 hbs. Those hbs are in addition to her daily pay out from her showing bonus.

  • If I'm understanding correctly then, his cost of entering stays the same 40 hb x 2
but he wins 42 hb per show, so 42 x 2, plus the daily payout of 10 x 7 which is 70 per week for an income total of 154 hb; less expenses of 80 hb? I hope I'm not confusing you, I'm confused enough for all of us. I'm trying to learn how to do the math to tell me which horses are losing money. I know I'm doing it wrong, but don't know where. My daily bonus is dropping, so I think that means I'm doing it the wrong way?

    And what good are points?

  • Great. Now I'm doing something else wrong and I don't know what.

Why can't I click on the shows? ?

  • Points is what gives you your daily showing bonus. I may be wrong, but I think most players consider accumulating points as much more important to their stable's income than the actual prize winnings from shows, which on average mostly just offsets the cost of entering the show.
  • I do not look at class winnings at all. Here are my steps for culling, but keep in mind, this is just me. There are many ways to do it andI just found this to work easiest for me.

The first time I did this I lost a huge chunk of daily payout because I sent a lot of old horses to auction. Now I keep more on top of it and I don't have a ton of show horses that are older. I generally do an auction run at the beginning of the month to make room for foals I breed. I can't breed if I don't make the room so I auction heavily.

This is really just based on lined horses. I do not use foundations as show horses. I keep some pointed foundation mares for Embryo breeding. My show stock is all lined horses from my breeding. The lined horses end up in better levels and earn more points. More points means better payout.

First I only look at horses over 10 years old so I can get lifetime payout. I auction everything in the 8L level. The 8L level is a poor point earning level and I find by getting rid of these, I can hoard more 7W horses. 99% of my horses make it to 7W level by 9 years old. This is a big earning level and I have horses in their 20s in my barn at this level. Unless they are placing dead last in 7W level - those also get auctioned.

If anything is below 7W, I also auction them - I feel like some 2nd gens from C/Yellow crossings end up lower and they just don't make enough points for me to consider keeping. This is why I use lined horses for showing - foundations do not make it to the higher levels.

As my lines have aged and I have a lot more 4th, 5th generation foals, I am now getting a lot more horses in the 8R, 8N, and 8W levels. I still end up auctioning a lot of 8R because they are still low point earners compared to 7W, 8N, and 8W. In these higher levels, I do take more care to look at whether a horse has reached their max score. If they are placing poorly in classes, I auction them.

It isn't really cut and dry for me because sometimes I have to auction more heavily in order to breed more - like when I habe 400 embryos to implant lol.

  • I think the shows get "archived" after a week. For me, I don't need to look at his classes. He is placing well enough in the 7W level, I would keep him until he passes. He is 19 so every year is a gamble with him.

  • Had to chuckle a bit as I bred your girl.

This one I would auction after you breed her - its her last year to produce a foal. As a show horse, she ended up in the 8L level which is why she is earning such low points. If I wasn't using her to breed, I would have auctioned her when she was 10/11 years old to get lifetime payout and make room for better horses.

  • And this guy I would also consider auctioning if you have better horses coming up the ranks. In my barns, he would be a poor earner and would have been culled at 10/11 years old.

I am a ruthless culler, but I like to breed lots of horses. I am probably breeding 1000 foals every month and I cannot keep buying barns. I auction a lot of horses for payout to make room. With the barns I have right now, my payout is 560k a day. I did 2 culls last month to make more room.

  • Out of curiosity, some of my horses, like the one just above, the top two shows you cannot click on them to see details and winnings?

And, his earnings this year and points this year are 0?
Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2022-03-06 02:02:44
  • Humboldt, how do you search for 8L horses?
  • You can't click on the classes because they have been erased. Every week the show classes get cleared. Once he shows again, you will be able to see his newest class.

His earnings this year are 0 because he has not shown in the month of March.

  • I don't search for 8L, instead I look through each barn as the show level is listed there. I checkbox every 8L over the age of 10 and mass auction them from the barn.

  • Thank you so much.
I have come to the conclusion that I have way too many horses lol.
  • oh, I forgot. Are my understanding of how to get weekly pay and entry fees etc correct?

entry fee x 2 = weekly cost of entering
    daily payout x 7 = weekly income
winnings (from one show) x 2 is added to daily payout.

income less costs, above 0, horse is paying for his keep?
  • Thats seems to be correct but that is not something I worry about. I don't get down to the level of are they making their keep. All my horses make their keep as I only keep horses that are making good points.

Also, yes, when going through show horses I always feel like I have too many!

  • Mine aren't all earning their keep as far as I can tell. I think I should get rid of the les promising ones first to make room for the exceptionals. Am I right in thinking there should be a daily payout I can look at and know it will be enough to cover any entry fees. Am I making sense?
