straws. why?
-
why would you collect straws of semen when you can just arrange a breeding? what are the advantages?
thanks -
Straws can be used even after the stallion has died. Also, you can breed many more foals from straws than the fifty live covers the stallion can manage in a game year.Thanked by 1Fiddler

Straws can also be used on eggs to create embryos. I can breed many more foals from special mares by using eggs.
Straws are easy to sell and the purchaser can store them and use at a later date too.Thanked by 1Fiddler -
are the costs comparable? is there some amazing dead stallion whose straw I should buy?
thanks so much on helping me learn this game! -
It costs 500hbs to pull a single straw, it really depends on the individual stallion if its cost effective, some people offer deals during the year on straws so you can get a few really nice straws at "pull price" (500hbs). There is cost to use the straw, either implant or create embryo. Most newer players would benefit from the cheaper live cover route, once you have the money to burn straws/eggs/embryos become easier to afford and more fun to play with.Thanked by 1Fiddler

so Ichigo, that's in addition to the create a foal price?
-
Yep, so just implanting a straw is 3000hbs, creating an embryo is 3-5000hbs (depending on if you use an egg or not), and implanting the embryo is 4000. So for me, I will mass pull eggs from certain mares which is 30,000 for 8-14 eggs, then I make an embryo with a straw (500 to pull a straw+3000 to create embryo) and implant it in a mare (4000)
Mind you this is all on a premium membership, if you don't have a premium you'll just be implanting straws at 5000 an implant (which results in a foal so you don't have to pay extra costs).
It's just another way to play the game, I went a long time doing single breedings in-house by hand or pasture where I didn't touch the advanced breeding lab. I saved a LOT of money that way, now I blow it all in 1 day doing 400 embryo transfers.... -
thanks Ichigo!
