what is NOT inheritable?
  • of course, colors and pigments are inherited. IF a stallion has a somatic tattoo, Exceptional producing Silver, say, and he only scores a 9 in performance will his ability at performance be reflected in his foals?
Is consistency inheritable? Does this mean they consistently throw good/bad offspring, or is this behavioral?
    Thanks.

  • oh and are Earnings inheritable? Will a pointed horse bred to a pointed mare produce pointy colts?

  • All foals, regardless of parents' points, are born with zero points. They will only gain points through showing.
As far as I know and have seen, PT is based on parents' PT and paper level. For example, a B/Red papered horse, bred to another B/Red, with a PT score of 10.4, will throw B/Red foals with PT in the 10 range. I usually see anywhere from 10 to 10.8 come from such a match. C/Yellow papers have a lower breeding ability, so they won't throw as good of foals.

  • Mack, i "make" 3 year old horses who have LOTS of points, and others have none; I wonder if they are inheritable...

  • @Fiddler, No points are not inheritable.

  • , PT is based on parents' PT

This is explicitly incorrect. Only the genetic potential of a horse is passed on. PT of the parent has no impact on the PT of the foal. Horses with high breeding ability tend to produce foals with high breeding ability and high showing ability both numbers come from a range and are selected and random and are not the same.
