How do you breed horses?
-
Mares must be four to be bred, stallions must be three. Since you don't have any mares that are old enough, you can search for horses available for breeding and breed one of your stallions to someone else's mare for a fee if you want.
-
Breeding season runs from the beginning of each new game year through the 27th of the following month. It is good game play to breed foundation horses (newly created ones) together, horses that are 2nd generation (foundation parents) together, and so forth.
If you don't have stallions of your own, you can look for suitable stallions using the Search Horses page. On the left side, under status, select "for breeding." In the main search section, select either Foundation or Lined, depending on the generation of the mare you want to breed, and Stallion as the gender.
To search for mares up for public brood, if you want to breed your own stallion, make sure to uncheck "Bred this year," since mares can have only one foal per season. Stallions can have up to 50 live cover breedings.
Be sure to check on the main page of the horse you select for any breeding rules its owner may have established. -
You will find some good foundation mares up for public brood in this thread:
