ok, I'm lingering at earning 2000 hbs a day. I've been making money by making pointed horses and selling them, getting below 20000 and then making more.
I've been weeding out unsuitable stock, ( like yellow class mares) I but since don't see how showing , which earns points but not money; I don't understand how to get your geldings to make hbs.
what is the next step?
thank you -
Points = Money ... more points ( and Higher Show classes ) will equal more earnings :)
-
It's good to sell those high pointed creates for fast cash but in theory you are giving that money they could earn to someone else.273933

Pointed foundations help get you started, because those points earn you a daily bonus right away. However, some of those pointed horses don't actually show all that well to earn more points.
This game is designed to be a long term game. It takes time to grow big.
The foals I breed all stay in my barn - a few are lucky and become breeders in psstures. But most are spayed mares and geldings that stay and show. As they earn points, they increase your daily payout. I have been here nearly 4 years - my daily payout is 560,000 hbs a day. -
You are going to have to stop keeping yourself below 20k points. You will never grow into a big profitable barn that way.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Ok, guys. i will try to stop the selling (but it's SO FUN!)
how many horses is a good amount to have in your working barn? I just spent a fortune that was gifted to me to make a 60 horse barn. -
You should have 3 to 5 times the number of show horses as you have breeding horses.Need to contact me? Read this first.

So during the last auction, I bought 3 geldings, all Star papered and consistent. I got them each for 2750.. Is this a good strategy?
(and they're pretty horses)Post edited by Fiddler at 2022-03-21 09:00:17 -
I would personally wait to stop making pointed creates until I had enough hbs to buy at least one or two show barns of size 90 or 210. That way, when you start keeping your bred foals to show them, you'll have the needed space.
As for making hbs, your show horses do make some hbs when they show (usually they make enough that you make back a small profit on your entry fees) but as others have mentioned, the key thing is that they will also earn points, which then are used to calculate your daily bonus of hbs.
For example, if we look at your horse Hi Ho Silver, she recently earned 3 points and 14 hbs in the Unjestingly Five Star Event (look under her records, then click on the show in question).
https://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=15450178
My strategy in finding show horses so far has been to look for (1) pointed creates (of course) because whether or not they show well, they will provide you with income every day, (2) spay/geldings with high PT scores because I'm not breeding into the 12s and 13s yet and I would like to try competing in the higher classes, and (3) keeping my own foals that I breed that are over 10.4 PT score (I know everyone has their own thresholds).
Of these three sources, I probably make the most hbs and points from my kept foals simply because I have so many. However, foals usually don't start making you money until they are at least 4 years or so, since they have to accumulate enough points to actually make a difference to your daily bonus. It's definitely a long-term process, not a quick one.
Again using Hi Ho Silver as an example, she's only 2 years old, so she won't level off for another 7 years (his PT is 9+). She is only earning you 1 hb per day right now since she only has 5.5 points. However, in the next 7 months, she will keep adding to her total points and may end up having closer to 200, and if she levels off in a show class where she keeps earning points, she could be a good show horse. If she levels off in a class where she isn't earning new points, then she likely wouldn't be worth keeping as a show horse. You might be planning on using her mostly for breeding instead, this was just an example.
By contrast, my horse here is older and well established as a good show horse. She has levelled off in a very good place and just earned 38 points in her last show, and is making me 463 hbs per day. When I bought her, I didn't know if that would be the case, I just knew her PT was above 13 and I was willing to see how it went.

When you're buying geldings/spayed mares, their Papers don't matter because the papers only relate to their breeding score. All that matters is their PT score and if they are older, check to see if they have levelled off in a good show class where they're earning good points.Post edited by CrowsnestRidge at 2022-03-21 09:41:02ID #265959 | He/him | Breeding Black Satin, Liver, and Grullo Arcturus Horses | Licenses: Mushroom, DFP2, Onyx, Axiom Blue and Green -
oh good, thank you. The ones i chose all had high PT scores. I did think that was related to the papers. That's helpful. I'll get back to looking for pointed creates.
I am not certain how I can save enough hbs to buy a barn, you're talking 500k hbs to get one as big as you described and right now I'm making a little more than 2000 a day.
thank you -
you can also "rescue" horses from Owner 13. they all train weekly and are "perfect" if you buy the 8 or 9 yo and keep / show them til 10 you can make a decent profit and roll that money into IV's :)
-
Good point @Fiddler - forgot how many IVs some barns cost. I'd still recommend in investing in maybe one or two smaller barns to hold show horses while you're still able to make extra income by selling pointed creates. I just remember the first month or two after crossing the points threshold feeling extremely slow in terms of daily bonus growth since I didn't really plan out the barn space in advance. But of course, completely up to you!ID #265959 | He/him | Breeding Black Satin, Liver, and Grullo Arcturus Horses | Licenses: Mushroom, DFP2, Onyx, Axiom Blue and Green

AnnisMyrph, why are there so many horses of that particular age for sale by owner 13?
-
Owner 13 is the Foundation Rescue. All horses owned by this part of the game are available for the regular create price of 2500hbs. They're horses that players have auctioned, but no one bid on.Might be addicted to pixel ponies...

oh!!

@Fiddler - I have added you to my buddy chat where I have put three show horses up for sale to you for 1 hb each.
https://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=9793127
This horse is a gamble for you. She is 28 years old and may die at the next rollover. But until then she is earning 505 hbs a day, and if she survives rollover, will continue to give you hbs daily. She is also in the top show class and is mostly coming in the top half of her class, so if you show her, she will continue to add to her points total.
https://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=12427217
This horse is 14 years old so has a few years of showing left. He earns 195 hbs a day and has levelled off in a very good place in his class, consistently placing high.
https://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=13781216
This horse is 9 years old and has not yet levelled off. He is currently earning 145 hbs a day. Once he passes 10 years old, if he levels off in a bad place, you will be able to sell him for his lifetime payout, which is currently 36685 hbs.
If you don't want any, or all of them, that's fine. Once you have been a member of HAJ for two months, I will be able to send you some hbs direct to help you out. :) -
thanks so much! so "exceptional show horse" is that what. I should be looking for?
thanks again!!Post edited by Fiddler at 2022-03-22 04:50:26 -
Exceptional show horse foundations will have a PT score between 10.0 and 10.4, I believe, but their breeding ability is widely variable. Most ordinary creates will have PT scores from 0.0 up to 9.9. Exceptionally Perfect foundations are B or Red papered and have PT scores of 10.4. Exceptional Producer foundations will have PT scores betwee10.0 and 10.4, but their breeding ability is widely variable.
So, if you're looking for show horses specifically, this knowledge will help you pick the best foundations for your purpose. However, keep in mind that Consistency is also important. Horses ranked "Consistent" will have scores that may vary by up to1 or 2 points in a given week. Horses ranked "Inconsistent" will have scores that vary a little more than that up to very much more than that. When their show score swings up, they add a lot to your showing program. When it swings down, they're not so helpful. -
@SandyCreekAcres gave an excellent explanation. One slight change, though, is the "Exceptional Producer" foundations; they will always have B or Red papers, with varying PT scores. I have one that has B papers, but a PT score below 2, and many others with PT between 6 and 10.
I think the lowest PT score I've gotten so far on an "Exceptional Show Horse" has been 10.3, and most of the ones I've created have not passed Breeding Advice.Post edited by MackZ at 2022-03-22 16:44:43Might be addicted to pixel ponies...

Thanks for the correction, MackZ. I did word that wrong.
I've reached the age where I often complain that my little gray cells are not as stickly as they used to be. :D -
@CrowsnestRidge I’m curious… how can that horse have that high of a daily payout but have a lifetime earnings of only 2778HB? What am I missing?
-
Good question, my understanding is that while her total points and total earnings represent what she has already earned and so will always remain the same or get larger, her lifetime earnings are more of a projection of future earnings.
Because she is an older horse and could pass on rollover, her expected lifetime earnings are quite low. I don’t know the exact formula, but it’s related to both daily payout and anticipated remaining lifespan. So a younger horse with the same daily payout would have a higher lifetime payout.ID #265959 | He/him | Breeding Black Satin, Liver, and Grullo Arcturus Horses | Licenses: Mushroom, DFP2, Onyx, Axiom Blue and Green
