I believe they have to have breeding quality that is equal or better to both their parents. It is possible for horses to be the same paper and for one to be worse than the other - I would guess that's what happened.

Not roll of the dice, there is scores/numbers we don't see as players.

PT score has no function on breeding ability and whether they pass SBA.

Breeding advice and SBA compare foals breeding ability to both parents. If the parents are unenqual, it has less chance of passing.

I use SBA first on all my foals because it is free, papering is last as that costs hbs. Pointless to paper if they get snipped.

Secretariat did have pretty good luck with his daughters, though.

To pass strict breeding advice a foal must be in the top percentile of quality of foal a horse can produce. This is judged against both parents.

Seabiscuit is probably a better example than Secretariat.
