Faster way to breed horses?
  • I see the pastures now have a hard limit on how many foals can be produced. I normally use one of my pastures to rotate through each of my breeding barns to breed my mares each season. Is the only alternative now hand breeding to breed mares one at a time? I still intend to breed the same amount of horses but now it takes 50 times longer since I can't just breed a stallion to 50 mares all in one go. I have a premium account, is there a mass breed feature I have overlooked? I don't want to spend hours breeding my horses one at a time.

  • Not really, other than buying more pastures

  • Your account can breed up to 510 horses in pastures per season now. You have 4255 breedable mares. You have probably one of the top 20 largest mare bands in the game. I am afraid if you want to keep producing so many foals each season using pastures you will need to invest in more pastures to help support the server cost associated with an account the size of yours. They are not necessary to play the game and are just a convenience feature. They were never designed to be used in that manner I am afraid.

I also see you have almost no show horses. Instead of getting rid of all your altered foals, it would be a much better idea to build yourself a proper show herd. That would earn you enough HBs to pay other members to buy pastures for you. I can see you are brand new to the forum. Check it out there are a bunch of posts about the importance of show herds and people buying pastures for each other. :)

  • I rarely post on the forum but I do "lurk" all the time and I'm aware of the popular strategy of having many show horses. I personally don't find show horses worth the stable space since they don't contribute to improving lines and I'm only really interested in the breeding aspects of the game. I find that my stables of breeding horses make about as much as show horses (sometimes more if you consider they also produce a foal each year that can be sold). I don't find I have any issues generating game currency and often have to buy IVs to avoid the money cap. I will consider investing in more pastures. I'm sorry if my account is causing a hardship on the game. I thought others had large stables as well. I will also consider reducing the size of my stable.

  • I don't think Ammit is aaying that your account causes hardship on the game. Large stables just take up more server space and processing speed etc. so the game has been designed in a way that larger barns like you are encouraged to spend money on features that will support your operation (and therefore the money you spend on those features supports the people who ultimately pay to run the game for you).

I'm sure plenty of other users would be willing to trade a pasture purchase for hbs or adding gmts to one of their horses. I would if I wasn't flat broke in RL right now :)

  • I have 2,600~ mares, including foals and ET mares, with 2,600~ pasture spots.
I have 10,250 geldings and spay mares, with 13,100 stalls.

Absolutely, you play the way that makes you happy (within the rules of the game of course). I was just very startled by the extreme difference between our play styles, and hope to give you another perspective from a large account. :D

  • Just like Ktarpey said. Nothing wrong with having a huge barn. We just have to make sure we can afford to support those huge barns on our end.

  • May I ask something not quite related? Why do the prices of the barns keep going up for me? They;re way beyond what my income will let me spend for the 1000 stall one
  • My understanding is that you start to pay a "tax" on new barns after you have 1000 extra stalls. So the price of buying new barns with IVs goes up the more stalls you have. You should read Ammit's comments in this thread: https://www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/comment/285430#Comment_285430
