What Fantasy Genes Do You Breed For?
-
I am wondering how to figure out foals to keep versus selling, so I would like to know what foals you often buy. I have Nexus and Ices 13, 17, and 18.
It would help me figure out what to do with the new limits placed on pasture breeding.Game number 273531
Licensed for Ice 9, 13, 17, and 18, Shatterglass, Nacre, Paintbrush Cool, Axiom Blue, Chinchilla, and Watercolor
Breeder of Black Tobiano, Sabino, and Bay Kit M

I'm often tempted to bring some more nexus into my lines, especially with chinchilla. I also like having some onyx but I don't make a point of selecting for it, I just like to see it now and then. I'm not a big fan of ice or phantom (except puddles!), though there are a few ice genes that I like, but not enough to buy the licenses. Chinchilla, mushroom, toner, and pangare+ are the must-have genes for me, and since I already have the licenses I'd be glad to buy a superior 2G or higher generation stud to add some diversity to my lines' pedigrees. In the past I would always look for a superior 2G stud to bring in genes I couldn't afford to GMT onto my own foundation and then put him over my own 2G mares I had bred from foundation rescue horses. To me that was almost as good as starting from my own dream foundation and good colts are usually easy to come buy and not too expensive. I might consider buying more mares now however since I'm going to be cutting down on my number of breeding horses. I only breed non-boosted lines, however, and prefer the current era for new purchases, so that usually cuts way down on what horses that are for sale fit what I'm looking for to buy to bring into my herd.

I'm currently focusing more on my W8 Draft and Roan/Tobiano Ara-Appy lines and my Bootstrap herd. However, I do have a small fantasy herd I play around with a little. I love the Axioms and have the licenses for Red and Nexus(hoping to get the others when they come up in the RGS). As far as Ice is concerned, you can see which ones I'm licensed for in my signature below; my favorites are 19, 20, and 4. 20 is especially nice with Axiom, in my opinion. I'm not really into the Phantom genes, but I do have Lace to play around with. Onyx is also kinda fun, especially on a dun. I like the fantasy genes, but, at least for me, they are just something fun to have pop up on some horses for now. I don't necessarily breed for them at the moment. But that may change later on.
I don't typically buy foals unless they have genes I need/want and have good papers. Actually I usually only purchase high pointed or high PT horses period.Post edited by MackZ at 2022-04-08 19:28:59 -
I breed for Watercolor, Nacre, Plaid, Axiom, Nexus, Wrong Warp, Inkspot, and Toner. Painted Ice, and Phantoms are mixed in too. I have most licenses.
I breed only superior from B/Red foundations so I'm super picky. I don't buy many foals. I breed multiple lines so they can cross nicely and I tend to buy older lined horses to mix in with my lines.
