Appy Genetics Questions
-
I love appies, and I've been breeding them in the game for years, but I still have a few questions about their genetics.
Is appy spot size controlled by hidden genetics? I know there's an appy spot size regulator gene in the game, but apart from that, can I select for larger spots in my appies and have it breed true? I really like the big spots on this girl, and I noticed most of my Morel babies come out with big spots, so I wondered if it was heritable:

Only a couple have smaller spots like this. Is that something I can consistently breed away from?

What genes, hidden or testable, cause an appy to varnish? Is Evergreen Boughs the only foundation that won't varnish, or just the only one guaranteed not to varnish? Is there a chance a regular create could happen to not carry for varnish? I've noticed that spots don't varnish, or maybe they just don't varnish as fast. Is there a way for the spots to always keep the color? It looks like most of the oldest appies in the game are completely white, but there are a handful like this one that have kept their spots and aren't Evergreen Boughs or descended from them:

Is PATN2 searchable by searching for horses that don't carry - blanket size and then scanning for het PATN1 horses? I noticed when looking for homozygous PATN1 horses in my barns that some of them are only het. Is the - they carry actually hidden PATN2? Here's a search, you can see a few of them aren't homozygous for PATN1:

I hope that's not too many questions in one post. Thanks so much in advance! :) -
Check the GMT lab on some of your lined horses. A few months ago some extra options were added. There is an appaloosa spot size gene that you can test for in lined horses as well as a varnish gene. These can't be tested for on foundations.Thanked by 1Cavalynn

Also ALL R/L Appies do in fact varnish out ; some faster than others ; ei Snowflake appies will be almost all white by 10, where as others take until they are 16+ but they will all go white eventually. EvergreenBoughs are a bit of computer line code magic that Ammit did to prevent the varnishing. And as @pinkie said ; you can check your lined Appies in the GMT lab and see some of the "Hidden" Genes, there are a couple that give bigger spots as well as Ive seen most of my Dp carrying Appies have larger spots as well.

Thanks for the tips! I'd forgotten about the extra appy regulating genes visible in the GMT lab. I'm getting an idea of what I should breed for from those, but I'm not exactly sure what each allele means. In my horses, I see varnish promoter is either Vrn or -. Does this mean horses with hom - won't varnish? And LP promoter seems to either be LPP1, LPP2, or -. LPP2 clearly seems to be causing the smaller spots, but I don't see much difference between LPP1 and -. Is there a big difference in phenotype between those? Or maybe combined with something else, there would be?

EvergreenBoughs varnish as well eventually. They just are rather slow about it.
Spot size is a super complex combination of factors.Post edited by Ammit at 2022-04-18 05:40:16Need to contact me? Read this first.
