Trying to find information on silver. I have this mare: http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=3235675 who is Silver Black. She has :eE aa CC dd gg FF SstySsty pp zZ chch SaSa | KitKit SpSp PAX3+PAX3+ VrnVrn LL rbrb OO IiIi WF: Extensive PATN: Medium which to me shows Hetero for Silver. I bred her and produced the following filly:

I'm confused as she also show Hetero: zZ for silver, but it is not expressed. What am I missing here?

Silver is not expressed on red based horses.

What Clare said. :) Silver and bay can only appear on horses with an E.

Your mare does have silver, she can't show it. She can have a baby that's a silver though. You would have to cross her on a horse with an E, and have the baby inherit that E and the silver both for the baby to be a silver.

If you cross her on a horse with two E's, then you'd have a 50/50 chance of the baby being a silver.

Thank you muchly. It helps make a decision on keeping her. I guess I didn't realize that silver did not show/was hidden, on reds! Thank you!

Remember, it can be hid on any ee horse...so...palomino and cremello
too...and grays that are either red or palomino or cremello under the gray.
