Do they have DP?
-
I bred two superior 2G colts. They haven't been color tested, but they are ee.

I would say that Cebriviel 2 does not have DP. Even considering his champagne and roan, he is too light to have DP, since he has to be homozygous for sooty, since both his parents were. His dam is probably heterozygous for DP, but I don't believe she passed it on.
Aigatlos 2 might be heterozygous for DP, since his dam looks like she might be homozygous for it, but once again, the champagne is doing a good job of diluting the base color. He is homozygous sooty, however, and doesn't really appear too much darker than that alone would account for, so I can't tell for sure.
-
Their sire is a Fuel to the Fire stallion, so the sire also has DP. I don't know if said sire has homo DP. Said sire doesn't look gold, he looks more like classic to me, but I could be wrong, since DP is difficult to predict.
-
Okay. I had forgotten that that Rank Special carried DP. My, not-GMT'd Fuel to the Fire mare is a liver chestnut with homozygous sooty.

Her daughter (whose sire is also a DP carrier) is very much darker, so I believe she is homozygous DP.

I would definitely gene test Cebriviel 2 to see if he has both dun and champagne diluting his color. Here are two other gold champagne dun roans with homozygous sooty to compare him with.

Aigatlos 2 is probably heterozygous DP, but I'd gene test him too to see whether he has some other dilution gene besides the champagne. He doesn't appear to be dun to me, but he might. Here is a gold champagne tobiano with homozygous sooty and very mild roaning to compare with.

I had enough money to color test Cebriviel 2.
He is both dun and champagne, plus Sty Sty.
-
That's what I would have expected from his appearance. As for Aigatlos 2, he has to be carrying dun, since Galathil 1 is homozygous DD. (As my daughter pointed out to me. I apologize for not checking the gene test results more carefully.) She also, with her younger and sharper eyes pointed out that the dun does show on his hock, where a slight trace of a zebra stripe crosses the shadow above the joint.
At any rate, with all the dun and champagne going on, including a chance for pearl, the only way to determine if either of these boys also carries DP is by careful breeding when they come of age (one of the reasons why I've never seriously chased either of the other two non-testable genes, GP and KP, being a rather disorganized breeder, at best. :D )
-
I never chased GP and KP because they were too expensive. DP is more affordable since there's a chance you can get one on certain DHHs.
-
Ok thanks, will have to test breed them eventually.
