The number in parentheses is the number of straws you own - in your case, 3.

The trailing number is the number of seasons before the straws expire. An expiration date of 0 means they expire at the end of current breeding; an expiration of 1 means they expire at the end of the next breeding season, etc. An expiration of 5 means that the straws do not have an expiration date set on them.
