Where is chestnut? > question answered.
-
I want to turn this white into chestnut or some other color that will show the satin shine. But chestnut isn't in the list of genes that can be modified.

Modifying the chestnut won't help the satin shine show. You need to remove some of the white. Since the dam is homozygous for tobiano, you can't remove that. But you could remove the splash or turn the white 8 into sabino 1, or reduce the white factor. I think I'd reduce the white factor and if there was still too much white covering up the base coat, remove the splash.Thanked by 1fiddleroo

Just to note, the horse is already chestnut, and you won't find "chestnut" by name as a gene to modify. Chestnut is a phenotype, not a gene. The gene you would look at is Extension (e or E) and if it's homozygous recessive (e/e), the horse is chestnut, assuming there's no cream or some other gene affecting it.Thanked by 1ConfluenceStable

I removed the white factor altogether and she's beautiful. I think if you click on the picture it refreshes it.

So e/e is chestnut as long as there's nothing else to interfere? Does it matter whether A/A or A/a or a/a?Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2022-05-24 20:33:45

That's right. AA, Aa, or aa make no difference on a chestnut because they only affect how black pigment is distributed, and ee has no black pigment.Thanked by 1ConfluenceStable

Thanks ;)
