    You can gift hb's so that they are able to buy them, but otherwise I don't think it's possible to send them any other way

    You can send them GMTs by using real money. Go to the 'Buy Upgrades' page and substitute their stable id for yours (which is filled in automatically). If you keep your eye on the Galloping Sale you might be able to get a discounted price. The recipient won't know who sent them.
