Why do foals drop back a rank?
-
This foal is 4th gen and is yellow. I don't know how to interpret what I did wrong so that so I can avoid making the same mistake again. It passed SBA.

It must be a very high yellow, so it's within the range of acceptable quality for SBA compared to the parents. I think if you want to avoid getting yellows by 4th gen you would have to be more strict in each earlier generation and go for full paper level improvement until 3rd gen and then superior A/Blue in 4th gen and maybe Star/Gold by 5th.Thanked by 1OopsDotCom

My question is - did all the horses in the pedigree pass SBA and tested superior to their parents? I see one mare on the distaff side that wasn't paper tested. At third gen I keep only As and Blues and they have to be superior to their parents to be used as breeding stock.Thanked by 1OopsDotCom

I start with exceptionally perfect and exceptional producers for foundation/1st gen. Those are all papered red/B. Second gen must be blue/A. 3rd gen horses must be at least blue/A and come out as superior when put through comparison testing. By 4th gen I should be getting gold/star.
If I start with yellow/c foundations then second gen horses must be red/b and still test superior to a red/b papered foundation. Blue/A by 3rd gen at that point.
SBA just insures that each foal isn’t significantly worse. If you aren’t running comparisons on every breeding foal then you don’t actually know what the breeding ability of that horse actually is. And you could end up breeding backwards in quality instead of forwards like with this filly.Thanked by 1OopsDotCom -
comparisons? what's that?
and I don't understand what Lynn means by full paper level improvement.
The grand sire (or is it great grand?) Little Boy Blue is my only blue foundation horse (blue color, not paper). He's yellow paper . This horse is the first foal that is blue and passed SBA. Would doing the 5% boost do any good? How much do they improve a horse and can it be done on stallions? It's either that or do the GMT on the grandsire. I've had a couple others, like this one's sire, blue-ish but in my eyes not nearly as pretty. How do I tell how many GMT's I have? I bought a few intending to put satin on a horse til I figured out it was gonna cost 5 million HB. -
Here's his sire. What would i do to get rid of the puke colored green on him?

The genetics guide, I can't find where it discusses the axioms. I just know bb makes it blue, not what the others like the xx do. I tried to change his xx to bb but he doesn't have b's.Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2022-06-09 10:22:20

Just reroll, sometimes axiom just does that off-color halo effect, it's kind of like how some nexus have a warp effect.Licensed for:
All Axiom
Ice: 9, 13, 15-19
RR: wt, PBC, PBW, Nac
PHAN: dmsp, lace, sku, hrt, shm, jelly, pmk, bird, crit sun star.
Other: everything but SPM and jewelThanked by 1OopsDotCom -
OK, when i breed my B / Red Foundations, i only keep the A/Blue intact on 2g. 3rd g if they test SUP to same sex parent and are A or blue , i ll keep them intact. If they paper red or B or yellow or C they are neutered. If they test "worse" than or As Good As they are neutered. What exactly are you trying to breed for ? the color only? or improvement of your breeding lines AND the color of the horse? the only way you can change his axioms to blue is if his parents are also blue, so you ll need to actually purchase horses or the genes from the RGS and put them on Foundations and start there. You can t make a 3rd generation chestnut horse into a black one without starting over from the beginningThanked by 1OopsDotCom

What I meant by "full paper level improvement" is that the first three generations should each be improving by a full paper level. That's most players' standard and it's very achievable. If you're starting with C/Yellow foundations, you should only be keeping B/Red 2Gs for breeding (very easy to get) and A/Blue 3Gs (a little harder to get) out of your 2Gs. You won't see Star/Gold in 4Gs from perfect foundation lines, so you have to comparison test them against their parents (you'll find that on the control panel with the other tests) and keep only those that are superior to parents for breeding. Then those superior A/Blues might give you Star/Gold offspring. If not just comparison test again and again keep only superior to parents stock.
To see how many GMTs you have, go to the Gene Mod Treatment page and it will show how many you have.Thanked by 1OopsDotCom -
Thank you everyone for helping me to understand. I've just been trying to improve my paper levels, I haven't tried breeding for colors yet, although there are a few (like the blues) I am trying to breed more so I can have a few to breed with. The comparison testing I haven't tried yet, I can see it's time to start. I have way too many unsnipped mares and stallions, I realized that last month when I tried to breed them all, and now I have not enough stalls left. 2nd in line after the gift exchange is more stables, I guess, for the show horses. My problem now is alter as many as I can so I do not have to comparison test them.
Will comparison testing them snip them if they fail? -
Comparison testing won't alter any horses, it will just tell you how they compare to their sire or dam, then you can choose what to do with them
-
Also, there's no need to comparison test until you get to 4th gen. It's expensive so I go purely by paper level when I can. From 1st gen to 3rd gen, you can rely on papering to see improvement, a full paper level improvement per generation. But it takes longer than a single generation to get from A/Blue to Star/Gold, so you have to comparison test your A/Blue 4Gs and keep the superior ones for breeding. Then you might see Star/Gold in your 5Gs. (That's if you're starting with C/Yellow foundations. You can get to Star/Gold a generation sooner if you use B/Red foundations.)Thanked by 1OopsDotCom

This guy was going up each breeding, to the next up paper, then all of a sudden he dropped backwards and hit yellow.
And yeah, that sounds like a lot cheaper way to do it. I foresee I'll be doing a lot of culling in the near future.
Most of my C's are rank specials so I really hate to snip them.Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2022-06-09 21:10:23 -
I comp test every generation and keep only the superiors. I've had 4th gen Stars and Golds from C/Yellow breeding stock. Rare, but does happen.
The reason why I comp test ALL breeding stock (except foundations because there's no point) is because I've had a number of 3rd gen Blues test AGA their 2nd gen Red dams which were tested superior to their foundation dams, and I've had a number of 2nd gen Reds test AGA their foundation Yellow dams. So papering level alone does not guarantee that a filly is better than her dam.
In the case of stallions, I've had Stars test AGA their A papered sires. Hence, I comp test everything except foundations.
I realize that comp testing everything 2nd gen and up is expensive, but it guarantees that you have the best possible breeding stock for every generation.
I geld/spay all foals that do not test superior to their parents. No matter how pretty.Post edited by Forestshadow at 2022-06-11 16:14:13 -
Yes, I am going to have to start doing this. Not right now though, just the regular testing was eating the hb I was saving for um, something.

You dont breed her at all ; if they dont test and paper better than their parents ; they are pretty show ponies. This Spayed Mare is stepping backwards in your quest to breed superior horses. She is a yellow papered filly that didnt pass SBA, out of a 3rd generation Red mare, am not sure where the confusions still is? Not to be mean but everone is telling you basically the same thing ; they need to test and / or paper better than their parents, not worse.

@Annismyrph not everyone learns at the same rate as another. This game has a lot of components to take in and it's easy to forget things here and struggle in certain aspects.
-
@KhaosAcres, am aware :) Its why I said I am not trying to be mean, It is a confusing game with lots of parts to consider. But to improve her herd ( which I am guessing she is trying to do ) these are the basics to get intact foals to continue the lines :)
-
I'm not planning to breed her. I just wanted to know why it happened so if something similar happens in the future, I'll know what I should do with the horse (snip)
And btw, the foal did pass SBA.Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2022-06-13 18:48:11
