New Goals, New Paths
-
So I took a few months off (almost a year, really) and just came back because I wanted to play with the updates on Forest. All my foundation studs have crossed the rainbow bridge, and I definitely didn't collect enough straws from them to really continue my lines in any sizeable way. I have enough (aging) 2g horses to get another foaling season and have a few 3gs to keep my black liver plus cream line going, but I can't be super picky about paper levels and will probably keep it going mostly due to how much I put into my foundations at the time.
My chinchilla line is in a sad state, but honestly I was getting a little bored of it and thinking about branching out even when I was still playing last year.
How do you all come up with new breeding goals? I'm not sure which direction to take my lines, but I'm itching to make a new stallion soon. I want to have some set goals for him and not just throw him together. I'm open to some variation in my new line and not just a herd of identical horses.
Sorry for rambling! I'm feeling a little bummed I didn't collect any straws from my first chinchilla boy, and don't have nearly enough from my other boys, and I'm regretting it.
(Also, a bulk straw collection feature would be incredible - it is so time consuming to collect straws)Formerly OscarWildin

I started ( and still have ) with BlueRoan Appies, branched out into Livers, DMSP ,ApplePicking and Mud Puddles ( when my ApplePicking stud passed ) I have everything thrown into my Liver line; Kit M Appy, the "white's" ; the variation within the Liver line is what keeps me interested in them , same with my BlueRoans ; they can each be SO different. That and Of Course Starting to play with the new Tack features is fun !

There have been some changes to cream and gray that have made otherwise almost boring horse colors really exciting now. You might want to take a look at how the new coats are expressing and see if there's something new you like. My new favorites with the recent changes are gray with champagne, and silver smokey black with S+. They're beautiful!

I have a few different lines to keep things interesting! I was not playing for several months but managed to flush my girls.. forgot to pull straws from some of my super blingy boys, but I still have several left thank goodness. My lines now:
Silver black Chinchilla (with some Ice 16 and Satin thrown in along with Kit genes)
Hom DP Liver mushroom with Kit genes
Fantasy (as many genes as I can get on a foal)
My new Platinum line is being worked on!
And I’d love to add a grey reduction line in too.
My advice is to browse ads and the search option and see what you’re really drawn to. :) -
My original project was livers, which slowly morphed into liver dun with DFP1/2, and that's currently my primary line. I branched them out into a fantasy ice/phantom line when I started getting more into those genes. I have a few non liver duns sprinkled in as well, as byproducts of the DFP line, who are too pretty to auction :)
I recently retired my clean slate protect, which I just wasn't giving enough love and attention.
I had my chinchilla stud and primary mare pass (who were some of my very first GMTd ponies), which spurred me to revive the line with a new chocolate chinchilla pair.
My rainbow ink/toner ponies are still going strong, but I need to clean up the lines a bit. I'm thinking of breeding for color more instead of just stats, which is opposite of what I've been doing with most of my lines bahaha.
I recently branched out from only warmbloods and started a few draft lines. In preparation of the grey update, I started a C/Y papered grey GR line as a challenge. I also made a platinum draft yellow line which I lovingly refer to as my ghost ponies, who are super light cream/dun/champagne. I had not really played around with champagne much in the past, and fell in love with the super dilute patterns you could get.
My current favorite is my only private line, which is my pomegranate satin draft ponies. They start as boosted foundations, and have just hit gen 3. There is a ton of different colors already, and I'm just loving the look. I'm super, super strict on what passes in this line, so it's been slow going, but super satisfying! I love showing them off cause I'm super proud of them ;)
I think lately I've been just exploring different color combinations. Liver and DFP1 and 2 will always be part of my lineup I think. I've gotten more out of my comfort zone with different genetics, and I'm loving it. In the end, do what brings you joy :) I always wanted a draft line, but there aren't many draft breeders in this server. So i said eh screw it, I want to do it so why stop myself?
I'm glad to have you back, and I hope i gave you some ideas!Post edited by Cherobird at 2022-06-09 18:22:27 -
There is bulk straw collection? You can enter however many you want from each stud.
My goals are ever changing with colors and patterns but quality has always been a goal for me. Start with B/Red foundations, superior every generation. I get strict on who gets to breed, they must carry the genes I want. -
I believe bulk straw collection is for premium accounts :)
Also welcome back! Sorry to hear about your studs but maybe you could find other things you're interested in a try something new! Feel free to browse my studs if you'd ever like some straws -
@CLynnRose I'll have to take a look at those! I love cream anyway, so that sounds like it has some potential.Formerly OscarWildin

Thank you all for your advice! This is getting the gears turning a little and I'm going to do a bunch of perusing.
And it sounds like I need to get a month of premium when I get a new stud made so I can pull straws in bulk. That would have saved me so much grief lolFormerly OscarWildin

I started with Riding ponies on this and drafts on a second account, ended up merging the two so I've got those two projects going.... then the height modifier came out and I started obsessing over tiny ponies lol. So now I have 3 projects and a lot of sorting and culling that I still need to do.
