What do I need to change
-
I want the DMSP to show. I've removed his white factor, and there's no appaloosa, so I don't know what to do. Does DMSP need a dark and a light to show?

I am not sure on this one. Is it the chinchilla effect on the pearl coat? Someone with chinchilla expertise might be needed for this.
You might be able to see it by taking away the cream, but again, I'm not sure. I know chinchilla on ee horses maakes them all white (it takes away red pigment) but this horse is a buckskin.Post edited by Humboldt at 2022-06-11 19:01:54 -
The base coat might be too light for the diamond sparkles to really show. Also, it's kind of faint, but it looks like there's not enough of the splash expressing with a white factor of none.
-
It was white factor medium before I removed it, it was white then too. Should I change it back?
This is beginning to feel like it might be too expensive on a horse not that high in paper but I was trying to make something interesting for my giftee.Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2022-06-11 20:28:49 -
Well, it's hard to tell because the base coat is so light, but it looks to me like the legs are very faintly light gray, so there's no splash markings there, I think. If it were me, I'd try removing either the cream or the pearl, which should darken the base coat. Then I'd change the white factor to get the splash expressing the way I wanted.

So just change the cream to - is that it?Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2022-06-11 20:30:34

You have 2 dilutes which creates an almost white horse.. I actually breed for double dilute Chinchilla and you barely see any white markings... this is one of my double dilutes with Homozygous Kit M...

You can also try changing his Agouti to be Homozygous aa (change the A to an a making the horse a silver black). It'll bring out the white markings.
You also want a higher white factor with Diamond Sparkle. -
Yes, that's what I'd try if it were me.

I removed the cream, but it's still not working. I have a couple other horse colored like this, they do pass it on to their foals, but I'd kinda like even a bit to show. As for white factor, I really don't want to have to change it 3 or 4 times guessing.

I changed the A to a, and oh wow, I think I love him like this. He still has hom DMSP, though. If I change the white factor, do I lose these dapples?
-
No you won't lose the dapples but his splash markings will become more dynamic. Making him Homozygous splash 1 will bring out even more white.
-
So how much do you figure I should increase the white factor? Your wild guess is probably a lot more accurate than mine would be ;)
-
I would do anything from Homozygous SW1 with medium WF and up.. here's some examples
Homozygous SW1 with extensive WF
Splashy Creme 3G
Heterozygous SW1 with extensive WF
WGH 8737688
Homozygous SW1 with large WF

Heterozygous SW1 with Large WF

Homozygous SW1 with Medium WF

I made his white factor larger, he already had het SW1. I think I liked him better without any white, but at least now he has a couple sparkles.

Thank you everyone for your advice and for explaining well. I've got this page bookmarked. I think it's time to get a notebook.
